RS 3.0 Alpine Head Unit
No one has addressed this yet...so i have to ask... i just bought my RS 3.0, and have subs ready to drop in the back, but i need to know fi the Alpine Head Unit is amp ready. i dont want to go the route of tapping the rear speakers.
Also, the Alpine HU has a surround sound setting that uses the rear speakers as surround, but i cant seem to get them to put out any real volume.. i adjust fade and such, but they wont push at all. Is anyone else having this issue? or are all xB's like that?
I traded in my 05 tC RS 1.0 on this thing, so i apologize if my knowledge of the xB is newbesque.

Have you pulled out the HU yet to see if there are RCA jacks or anything on the back? That's probably where I'd start. Someone else probably has looked already, but that shouldn't be too hard to do beforehand.

If it's a real surround sound (e.i. 5.1) then the rear speakers won't be on all the time anyway. They would only come on when there is surround information to be played.
ok peoplez heres the skinny on the alpine HU.
it is NOT pre-amped. you will need a line in/out converter to tap the rear speaker line. the part costs about 30 bucks at circuit city.
the HU does have 2 extra sets of av jacks for more lcd screens in the back, just plug the video in and go, i just installed an 8inch in the passenger dash, ran video to the HU and it fired right up.
Be sure you have your amp properly configured, or you might get distortion from the speaker line, set it low, and thump away. im pushing 1200 watts to a PBX 10", and its threatening to shake the car to pieces, with no distortion.
I am a little shocked that alpine would put a HU in there that wasnt amp ready, and when i called toyota, they confessed that they dont even offer a pre-amped version of the alpine hu, and they would have had to do the same signal tap procedure. the truly sad thing is, the shmuck in parts and service didnt know the RS 3.0 even had a dvd player, much less screens in the headrests
i will be installing green LEDs under the car as well in the next few days, and tieing in the control box for the lights to the tach, so when i hit 4500rpms, the leds will scan forward, giving a nice surge effect to the light, ill post photos and a walkthrough if no one has done it yet.

I am amazed that you can do that all yourself. It seems like most of the people on this site have worked at car audio shops before or something. That is surpising that there is no pre-amp in the HU. I thought all new stereos came with that. I want to see a pic of the screen in the dash. It really needs a screen up front.
ok so you hooked up your extra tv to the set of RCA jacks that say AV in??? mine say Video in and Audio L&R in that was all I saw was three inputs no more outputs actually I hooked up a PS2 to the AV in and Audio in and now I have the PS2 mounted in the rear seat area and it plays through the tvs and speakers so I do not know where these extra RCA's that you have with output are....
BUT if ANYONE on here knows where I can get a wireing harness to hook my bazooka back up in my new 3.0 instead of having to tap into the wires I would appreciate the help.

Can some one take a pic of these new so called Alpine radio's in the RS 3's, i would really like to take a close look at them. I wonder if there like the ford radio's that just said Alpine on them and really had nothing else but the name on it. Also I imagine there are quiet a few car audio installers on here, i know i am.
