Is there something wrong with my sub?:(
I never really listened to a sub up close until I got mine. My system sounds really good when im sitting up front, but if i go outside and open up the hatch back and turn up the volume, the sub kind of sounds like a buzzing/vibrating noise, i cant really explain this. Is this normal, im getting worried, its a diamond audio d6.
maybe there is a bee in there !!!
naw on serious note , if you think its abnormal then the chances of it being broken are slim to none. But no its not broken ... trust me you will no when its broken. Your just expecting something big out of something so small you probably have. You also have to think if i bang on a wall and your in another room your gonna hear a boom boom. But if you stand next to me and im banging on the wall your gonna hear a whole diffrent sound and maybe some ceiling tiles falling down at the same time
ALSO, what is it that your rockin ??

^^^ good analogy with the wall......
I wouldn't worry about it......most subs, when listened to right next to you, sound like ____ in the box.....put them into a smaller room or in a car and it will sound 47.63 times better.........seriously....why else do you think Car audio shops have a sound room??? cause if you listened to the subs out in the open, it would sound ____ty...

ok this is the deal, since the sub is sitting over a hollow compartment, that has the tire under it and the jack, etc. It could be that u have theres something rattling underneath the sub. or the hatch or anything around it. The hatch has been known to rattle. Stuff the compartment with some clothes, really tight. If the noise is gone, you've found your problem. Go to the store and buy some dynomat and dyno the hell out of that compartment and maybe the under the hatch and stuff like that.
If its not that, then u might have a problem w/ the sub. Make sure the sub is tightly screwed in the box. Some people put padding in the box, i think its called polyfoam, u can go to a fabric store and get the filling they use for stuffed animals and put it in there, not too much.
If u still have problems, and u really think its the sub. Rip the damn thing out and take it to the ____ store u bought it for and yell at someone.

can a small air leak cause a dramatic decrease in sound quality? As of now, i just have the speaker wire going directly into the box thru a small hole i drilled. I didnt seal it with silicone, because i am planning on getting some terminals, and it seemed pretty tight.. I also may have not wired it properly inside.. I thought i wired it in parallel, but i may have not.. Here is a diagram i found, and below is how i wired it. I used two pieecs of speaker wire.

I'm not a wiring expert. . . I usually follow the charts. . . but a small air leak can and usually does dramatically decrease sound quality. . .
how? Resonance. You probably won't notice the leak for most bass notes, but when the bass hits just the right (or in this case, wrong) note, it will resonate with the hole, basically causing your sub to act more like a free air sub. Because the hole is so small, it probably wouldn't be a huge deal, but it's worth it to temporarily seal it with silicone. When you are ready to put in the terminals, just cut the wire (and you'll have to cut the box anyway).

why does my wiring look differently then that rockford diagram though? Is there different ways to acheive the same thing? Also, does anyone know a good place to order the sub box speaker terminals?
The only difference between your wiring and the Rockford diagram is the side of the sub the connections to the amp are on. Electrically, which is what counts, they are the same.
