Default Need more tire

Alright guys and ladies im hoping someone out there can help me out. I am riding on Goldline springs with 18" rims wrapped in 215/35/18 tires and have OTG rear spacer shims. Since im using my box as an everyday driver and I have already jacked up one of my rims, I am looking for a little more rubber between the road and my rims. So what would be the next step up with out having any rubbing issues? I was thinking a 40 series tire should do the trick. Any help??

Well, here's the deal:
Your 215/35-18s are just about 23.9 inches in diameter, which is only about 1/4" larger than the stock 185/60-15s at 23.7".
The 215/40-18 is 24.8" in diameter, which is 1.1 inches larger (or about 4.5% for reference' sake regarding speedo error).
That said, the stock tire on the bB in Japan is a 185/65-15, at 24.5", not TOOO much smaller than the 215/40-18.
Confused yet?
But seriously - I run 205/60-15s on the back of mine (on 7" wide wheels) which are 24.7" diameter - with no fitment issues at all. But I'd still see if anybody else has run the 215/40s just to be sure...
On the plus side, the 40 series gives you almost a full 1/2" more sidewall than the 215/35.

What wheel width do you have?
Besides the 215/40/18 (24.77" diameter) there is also the 225/35/18 (24.20" diameter). These are a little bit wider, but much closer to the USDM stock diameter of 23.75" and only 1/4" off from the JDM diameter of 24.46". And the JDM diameter is actually what our speedometers are calibrated to.

If you are running at least a 7.5" wide wheel and aren't having to deal with rubbing on the fender lip, I would go with the 225/35 over the 215/40.

I'd so a search on fender rolling. The basic idea is that it flares the fender a bit so it'll clear the tire. The devil's in the details of doing it properly.

My wheels are 7.5" wide. Why do you say go with 225/35 instead of 215/40? How much more tire am I gonna get with a 225/35 vs a 215/35?

Hey Rowdy, I'm having the same problem. I need a taller sidewall and if I remember correctly, someone on here has the 215/40 18s on their TRDs, which is the same wheel I'm having a problem with...

Rowdy, maybe you should take a look at a 205/40/18. It sounds like you want more sidewall than a 225/35 will afford. a 205/40 can easily fit a 7.5" wheel and it falls in between a 215/35/18 and a 225/35/18.

This will provide you a the taller sidewall of the 40 series with a bit more stretch to help avoid rubbing. Nitto offers this size tire in their Neo Gen, as does Toyo in their Proxes 4.

You are exactlly right!! I just wasnt sure if a 205 tire would fit on a 7.5" wheel. Thank you very much!!

Put more pressure in those!! I'm putting 40psi in my 215/35 stretched over 8.5 wide and it's still not enough. So far no bent rim yet.
