My planned setup is:

scion xA

2" Tanabe drop
Flik Fuel's 17x7, 42 offset
tires: Falken Ziex 205/45R17

anyone who knows if this might or might not rub.. it would be greaty appreciated..

 

You will be fine. However, some spacers on the rear might make it more visually appealing.

As FModFTD suggested, the One Ton Garage 10mm spacers are affordable, are easy to install and don't require longer wheel studs.

I am running 15mm H&R spacers. I had to replace the wheel studs, and they're more expensive.

 

is there a preferred offset that I should get instead of 42mm?

 

35 to 38mm would be better, especially with the 7" rim. And definitely get the OTG hub spacer for the rear.
