15-16's aren't expensive, they are actually 1-2 bills cheaper
than 18's.
i just think the car itself is VIP or not.
thats why i say VIP looking xb. cuz a xb isn't
a vip car, in fact, its a budget box, BUT it can "look"
vip...
for example. theres a white rsx, its a sporty little coupe.
but this one is tuned "vip looking"
it doesn't mean that the car itself is a VIP car, its a VIP
looking car. and i think it's one of the best looking rsx's out.
if u put 15's on it, i'd just laugh.

That RSX is hot!
I agree with the poster about the Lorinser wheels, those were the origionals.
To me the whole VIP thing is Japan's way of emulating early-to-mid 90's German cars like the AMG Hammer, and how tuners like Brabus and Lorinser further refined them. Then they added some of thier own flava, particularly with the wacky interiors and using minivans, etc.
IMO the coolest VIP cars are when they start with a rather non-luxurious car, like the bB, and go crazy with it. That seems to be pretty unique to Japan.

Ok, maybe I can help show something, below is a nice xB that I think most can agree is a VIP style box. The size of the rim looks fairly big on this box.

This next picture is a what I think is also VIP style. The size of the rim doesnt look as big on the van at all.

If you look at the proportions, I think the xB could have a smaller wheel combo and still look VIP. Its about the balance like someone said here, if you balance it right, though probably more difficult, Im saying it could be done. I guess Im trying to understand why its not acceptable to consider this a possibility.

I Agree1 The cool thing is taking the box, a reltively inexpensive car (compared to an LS4301), taking the styling cues of VIP, and making it happen, much like bBOXd, Stan, and others. They just look so damn cool!
I do have to ask something though. For those of you with the super low drops, do you still use the car as a daily driver? I would assume that if you are on bags, you can actually raise the car when you will be driving around, but do you drive it for daily use? Just curious.

There really is no logic to it or anything. There's no point in continuing this argument because its like beating a dead horse. Thats just the way it is.
15" or 16" wheels *usually* will not be considered VIP on a bB. That just the way it is. Most VIPstyle wheels cannot even be had in smaller diameters.

My xB does not have a VIP Style flow and probably never will.

To use Fabulous as a standard, let's take a look at proportion, shall we?
(Keep an eye on the distance between the shoulder line and fender line. Compare that distance to the distance between the fender and the ground.)
The true VIP car sedans have large wheel wells comparative to its height - this proportion is what really defines the true VIPcar....big wheels and really low height. That is why a lot of older Nissans and Toyotas make better VIP cars than the newer taller generations. Example:
Newer Celsior:

Older Celsior:

So, with Non-VIP cars, you've got work with what is available....
Previas have smaller wheel wells comparative to its height as do most other vans. You can only do so much with what's there. Here is a Granvia with even more extreme proportion:

K-cars, are small, but share typical proprtions of a van on a smaller scale. THat is why 15s work perfectly. Example of a Wagon-R:

Now, the xB has larger wheel wells comparative to its overall height - this example shows an xB taking full advantage of the well space w/o having to grossly exceed oem tire diamter (like 20s would):

hmm i keep going back and forth..
with 15's i guess my gripe is, the wheel
doesn't FILL the fender whell enough. i guess
on a personal-taste, i prefer it to fill the wheel well nicely.
15's and 16's don't cut it unless its a geo-metro.
as for fake rims/vip look. well, vip look is just like "reggae"
look, u can look reggae, but u can be some chinese foo!
haha.. i dunno.
but if u take a flip, a reggae guy looking chinese? nawww
we're talking about reggae, and looking reggae.
does that work for a similie/metaphor/comparison? lol
