I have 8K on my xB and love it. But the truckers and other drivers hate em' on a dark road. Just drove from NJ to FL over the holidays and I notice that I was ____ing off a lot of people on the road. Plus I get flashed by oncoming traffic all the time. They hate it when I flash them back since I have Dual HID's (Hi & Lows)

Flashing HID highs is an awesome way to kill the bulb and ballast. H4 HID bulbs are notoriously glaring.

Since the bulb is designed to house both the low and high filament of a halogen bulb, the greater output creates significant splash into the 'high-beam' section of the parabolic reflector. Only with some really beefy casper shields can H4 bulbs have an even cutoff.

The bulb is not the reason for glare, its the stock housing. its not designed for HIDs

my HID setup does not blind anyone with the right manufactured bulb and correct aim

my H4 has a Anti-glare shield that prevents glare. it is also noted you should aim down your lights a little.

also the bluer the light output the angrier people get :-P

I wasnt aiming that toward anybody(no pun intended), just saying.

Id think the opposite, the bluer, the less light output(by Kelvin rating) hence less brightness.

It's a combination of the two. Since an H4 is a dual-filament bulb, a stock H4 housing must have a reflector that will project both a low and high beam pattern.

True, but if you take the dual filament bulb out of the equation, and put in a single HID one, it still becomes glare from the housing. not the bulb

Except that a lot of H4 HID bulbs include a halogen high beam to allow users to retain use of their highs. By doing this, a proper shield cannot be put in place to create a cutoff which will keep the output from splashing into the other parts of the reflector.

The only way to have an H4 bulb that will not glare is to eliminate the halogen aspect of it and integrate a large glare shield.

Some bulbs have it, some don't.
I had a set of H4s (without then integrated halogen high) from Operatic for a long time with very little glare... when the bulbs died, he sent me a new set... this time they have the integrated high. The glare was horrible.

The ones that Umnitza is selling (or was 6 months ago) don't have an integrated halogen high, but it does have a massive glare shield. Those do pretty well in the stock housing.

So yea, the housing is the problem at the end of the day, but different manufacturers have different bulbs and they all perform slightly differently in the stock housing.

Still... I've upgraded to projectors with HID 9006 and the cutoff is dead level, no glare, and the output is more even and crisp.

If you're going to do HID, I highly suggest moving to projectors.

What brand did you get? i've been looking on ebay and it's crazy how many different kits there are. I'm looking at getting some, but don't wanna get junk.

Naw, it looked good! my low beams on my projectors are super low, tired of running my high beams and getting flashed. how much can you get them for locally?

I'm not sure if you've been helped yet but I received a set that looked like yours except it was an H7 and I was a little thrown off too by the black and red wired flat pins. But once I got to the headlight, it was obvious that those two flat pins go into your stock harness (where your bulb was connected to). Hope that helps.

I'll vouch for Umnitza again.
I did a 20 kit group buy last April and it went very smoothly.
