Many thanks Jeff and Rob!

I had a feeling that this was a normal condition but I wanted to be sure. Thanks for the explanation as well!

This resulted in the azimuth portion of the intermediate gear breaking away from the worm portion. I have not been able to find a replacement gear, so I purchased a complete replacement mirror from Sean (MyBox).

The JDM mirrors I installed do not have manual folding capability regardless of whether the power is on or off. Within the gearbox there is a drive gear directly attached to the 12 volt motor, the intermediate gear, and the stationary counter worm gear attached to the base. None of these permit a manual bypass.

I tried to use the JDM passenger base on my driver’s side, but the linear counter-clockwise position of the base places the mirror’s glass further in to where it would not rotate out far enough for me to have an useable view. Additionally, because the USDM driver’s side mirror is further out than the passenger side, it does not come in as far during the azimuth power cycle.

Overall, these are a great mod. Frank
well my set and the set on my friends car (the first two xB's to sucessfully retrofit the power folding mirrors) both will manually fold without turning or breaking any gears.... they have a springloaded system just like the US mirrors and will release from the gears and fold in without breaking anything.... if the spring gear release does not work as designed then yes the mirror housing will not release from the gear unit and will result in a broken gear but not likely

also you used the word "Azimuth" out of context, you should check this site out, it will explain the word to you.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azimuth
and how does azimuth have anything to do with a "power cycle"... i dont get it???

and yous said "While transferring the JDM bB components into my USDM xB housing".... hold on just a minute??? i didnt know that they made a USDM (United States Domestic Market) scion xB.... when did they move the factory to the states??? and could you tell me where it is cause i would like to take a visit...

I'm going to have to ask you not to insult my intelligence again and please do not give false information out on the forums as it will result in a bad reputation for the site. Please only post facts here.

If there is still some confusion after this i will be glad to take video clips of the manual folding process in action.

A release mechanism would be great on mine, but these are not equipped with one. There certainly appears to be different configurations.

In regards to your inquiry about azimuth; this is a term associated with aerial device equipped vehicles and its definition is the “horizontal direction expressed as the angular distance between the direction of a fixed point and the direction of the object”. Basically, the operational position of the driver’s side mirror is about 235 +/- degrees clock-wise. During the azimuth power cycle the mirror moves about 35 +/- degrees.

Importantly Jeff, please do not think anything in my reply to Alex was directed towards you. I only referred to my mirrors and my experience with them.

You were a great help a few weeks ago when I was installing my door panel inserts and I appreciate it. I also hope you were able to use the information I sent you about the dealer who installs the leather and suede inserts.

Thanks again for always sharing information and mod ideas. Keep up the good work. Frank
well that sucks that your mirrors will not manually fold... i wonder what year model they came off of?? too bad we will never know

BTW i got my suede put on this week and it looks great, when i upload pics i'll PM them to you

The Mirrors were add on options on all bB, I didn't know about the manual folding till couple of people broke theirs but I guess if you have them then better use them and fold them each time you get out of the car to be on safe side. I do have 4 different sets in stock if anyone is interested, Thanks again for the support Sean @ JDMPalace

Does anyone have a link to the install for the power folds? I'm curious to what the people who bought them from Sean, came with? Did it come with relay's? A switch and mirror i'd assume...but what else? If anything.

sean provided exactly what he showed in the pictures...

mine was a left mirror, a right mirror, and the control switch.

you don't need relays.

you will need wire.

So...if you don't mind me askin, how does it work then without relays? I see some people say you don't need them or something... Maybe you still have the pics you could PM me? Or a rough idea of instructions?

the new mirror control switch does all the work...

it reverses the polarity on two wires to make the mirrors open or close.

you can look at that way...

it is really a two wire reverse polarity switch.

the motors have limit stops in them to figure out when they are open or closed.

hardest part to this mod is finding two wires to use in the plug for the switch.
then running two wires through each door to the mirrors...i suggest making some 'serviceable disconnects' in the wires. just incase you need to remove the doors or mirrors for anything.

Oh oh, so your saying you tap into 2 wires? for this to work?
^^^^ " Hardest part to this mod finding two wires to use in the plug for the switch " could you explain?

nope, tapping two wires is easy...

you have a stock mirror control switch that you will disconnect.
sean should provide a new mirror control switch with the retract mirror button.

now this new control switch has two extra pins on the back of it. (the two wires that reverse polarity to make the mirrors move in and out)
what you need is to find wires (with the little clip/pin) to put into the plug.
you need the clip/pin to keep the wires in the plug, otherwise they will fall out.

if you are planning on doing this, go to a junk yard and cut the plug from another toyota. or pull the two pins to use on your project.
