hey guys i was just wondering if anyone knew of a web site that sold the blacked out tail light covers for my 05' XB? anyone? thanks

Plastic Covers or Vinyl?

BlueBatmobile sells some Vinyl ones

 

1. Go to tint or sign shop
2. tell them you need two feet of limo tint
3. pay them $10
4. go home and take out tailights
5. clean tails really well
6. lay tint over taillights using soapy water and squeege (or credit card works too)
7. re-install taillights
8. post pics on ScionLife
9. get $100 ticket from the po-po because they cant see your tails
10. remove taillights and post on SL about how stupid the cops are for giving you a ticket. Be sure to say things like, "Shouldnt they be out solving murders!" or, "Isnt there a donut somewhere calling there name."

No window tint is NOT the way to do it... Pretty funny though.

yeah, they're illegal in Cali. I always get cops behind me, they never seem to care? haha im going to jinx myself. BUt I dont see why, you can see my brake lights and turn signals very clear... headlightarmor.com

 

^^^Because, most highway traffic acts state that your reward facing lamps must reflect back the colour red when a motorist approachs your vehicle from behind. This is the same reason as to why the old school all clear euro-tails where made illegal (the red reflector of the OEM lights was replaced with white and therefore reflected back the wrond colour....

...bottom line, its the inability of the reflector to properly reflect light that makes them illegal in most states,

 

Just an FYI, with our taillight kits the reflectors will work just fine. Take a flash photo of them and you will see the reflectors shining back at you.

Except, no offense, you are in Canada and the author of this thread is in California so there are many different laws regarding rear lighting. As an example, in California our light configurations are mandated by the California Vehicle Code which basically reads the "bulbs" need to be red and visible for 1000' and the reverse "bulbs" need to be white and visible for 50'. There is no mandated cover color....unless the "bulbs" are covered in such a way as the emitted light no longer is red and visible for 1000' or the reverse light is no longer white and visible for 50'.

So depending upon where one is on the planet, they may not have to sweat darkened tails.

(HOWEVER, If one is going to smoke tails in CA, this is the section that causes tickets: "a) Every vehicle shall be equipped with at least one reflector so maintained as to be plainly visible at night from all distances within 350 to 100 feet from the vehicle when directly in front of the lawful upper headlamp beams".) If your smoked tails do not reflect, you are in violation....one can mount the properly sized bicycle reflector somewhere to fully comply.
