Brake pedal has 0.25-0.5" left to right horizontal trav

Brake pedal has 0.25-0.5" left to right, horizontal travel...dealer service dept says it's normal.....can you guys check this on your xA?
I've had about 7 different cars in the past and this is the first.

Auto

Automatic....got about 700 miles on it.

My current car has a little play in the brake pedal, hard saying if it is normal for all cars or not.

I noticed this the first day, and it freaked me out. The dealer says it's normal. News to me.
