Default Cig Lighter and Battery question.

ok, so first off, here's what I'm planning to do. Keep in mind, I have no real knowledge of how to do all the cool stuff to my car that most of you all do.

It's pretty simple, really. I wanna put a flip down dvd player on the inside of the back hatch door. So when opened, you can sit in the very back and watch movies. I also just bought a cooler that plugs into the lighter. Other than that, maybe add a seat cushion for the back, or maybe some throw pillows. haha

ok, so I'm just wondering how long I can power the dvd player and cooler using the lighter without the car being on.

I would say this, the better the battery the longer it will last. Having said that, trying to watch a 2 hour movie & have the cooler plugged in without the car on, no battery will last that long & guarantee you could start the car after.

ok, thanks. Yeah, I was afraid of that. I'm probably going to get a meter thing that detects when the battery is too low.

What about some kind of portable power source? Would that be a good solution?

Carry one of those portable power packs with you, fully charged before you leave home, & you show be fine even if the car battery dies completely.

If you are planning on doing this often, then you should buy another battery with a switch slelector to switch between batteries. That way you could run one dead and still have one to start the car and charge the other battery. The set up dual battery systems on boats all the time, that same set up would work in your car too.
