Flat Tire Net: Any Use?
I took delivery of my 2005 TCM AT xB on 6/5/04. It included a "Flat Tire Net."
I read in the manual that this is used to safely tie down a flat tire when the temp spare tire is installed. I'm guessing Toyota's lawyers came up with this idea after someone crashed, was hurt or killed, and sued because the flat tire was not secured (or maybe it's a Fed safety standard).
Questions:
* Has anyone actually used this net when they had a flat?
* Has anyone come up with a creative idea of how to use this net for some alternate use?
* Is this net standard in 2004 xB's and other new cars or is this new to model year 2005?
Just curious... Thanks.

Got one with my 04 Box.
I think the idea is because the tire is too big to go in the donut spare spot and if you have passengers, there's not enough room to lay the tire flat in the back with the seats up. You bag the flat and secure the net to the seatback so the tire doesn't roll around and doesn't flop from seatback to hatch.
And it is a good idea to secure large or heavy objects in your vehicle. What if you slam something while that tires in the back, do you want to run yourself over inside your own car? In one accident i got into when i was younger, my worst injury came from one of my unsecured speakers (little wedge boxes supposed to be for in a truck) flew up and hit the back of my seat. I was sore for 3-4 days and that was with it hitting the seat, if it would've hit me in the head.,.. Who knows...

i use it to hold my rubbermade box for detailing. it is also a good cooler holder so that it doesn't move around and shake up my beer. right now i have my football, basketball and shoes in it holds them nicely.
i think the purpose is to get you all excited cause you think the dealer gave you a cargo net. untill you actually look at it and crush all your hopes and dreams of scion salesmen being cool and not asses. but thats just my opinon
