I fought the law and the law got the best pics of my xB evar!
The red light cameras (no video) here were all shut down after the courts ruled they were illegal because they didn't show the driver, just the car. They said it would have been ok if the driver was in the picture for positive identification. Funny thing is, the city decided against a system that did just that when they installed the cameras.
I was reading about these a little while ago, and although I can't quote a reliable source or even say that this is true, I read the tickets issued through these cameras are not the same as tickets from an actual officer. Camera tickets don't go through court, and don't affect your driving record. The only thing that can happen if you don't pay it, is a report to collections. Which seems to make sense, that is how those little parking lots where you put money in the box work. You get a ticket written to the car. I even read a lot of the money goes to some random company operating the camera. Now keep in mind I've never gotten one of these tickets, but a friend had one from Arizona, and it had Arizona DPS on it or something.
As an officer, I think these things may prevent accidents and stop traffic violations, but I don't like them. I would never want them in my city, and I'm glad they aren't here. In fact, I would probably avoid moving to a city where they are.
**EDIT... Ok I just looked this up again and found a bunch of stories where you can go to actual court on this. Blows my mind. I don;t know what crackpot site i was on before..... but i still think the cameras are stupid.

Here, they were treated the same as getting a parking ticket. A ticket and a fine, but it didn't count the same way as if an officer would have stopped you. Not reported to insurance or points against your license the way moving violations are.

On the top of the ticket it lists it as a general infraction, not a a moving violation. and its highlighted right next to the amount "This ticket carries no points or other detriments to your driving record" so no points and nothing else...
Would this be legal in California?
Seriously though, hope you don't keep driving like that. One guy doing a u-turn and your nice xB is all messed up. I've only gotten a red light turn ticket, .03s after it turned red. Now if only I could get my reaction time at the tree that low.

never saw a turn where you didn't have a right a way, luckily we don't have to worry about those here, yes there are traffic cams on some of the stop lights in arkansas, but they are used for emergency vehicles and to tell when they need to adjust the timing on the stop lights due to changes in traffic, we also have the little 1" square boxes on some lights that allow emergency vehicles with a special box to go through (turns red lights green) no red light cams what so ever
