I'm in the boat as well. Since June 26th, that is...
Been reading the forums for well over a month now but have never felt worthy enough to post. So here's my first one!
I bought my manual black '05 xB with 55k miles for $10k flat 1 day after my birthday. Been loving it so far. Always wanted one and now I finally have one!
She's got paint chips on the front and rear (previous owner lived in SF so must have been parallel parking 24/7) but everything else is running great. I feel like I've rescued a puppy from the shelter. I really love this car.

Default My xB experience

Well I've recently snagged myself an orange xB, FINALLY, after wanting one since they first came out. But I have a bit of a story behind this..

When I first looked into car buying back in '04, I had narrowed down the two I wanted between the Mazda3 hatch and the xB.. the 3 obviously being the better choice as far as 'bang for your buck', yet with the xB looking more attractive and being cheaper. I am a sucker for orange vehicles, so that was the color I HAD to have. I ended up having to make my final decision by going with whichever one I could find in orange first. At the time, the lava xB's were getting increasingly hard to find. And so in the end, I became the proud owner of a lava orange 3.

I traded that in back in May for the MazdaSpeed3. FANTASTIC car, let me tell you... Though it quickly became a bit more than my husband and I could handle, money-wise. So I found a new owner for that, and quickly looked for a replacement.. another orange 3, as I SO regretted trading her in in the first place.

As fate would shine down on me, I found the xB. It had an AMAZING price tag, due to its salvaged title; not because it was in an accident, but because the body had been vandalized; powertrain and frame unscathed. I leapt at the opportunity.. and now, it's mine. ^_^

I have to say (don't hurt me! ) that I miss the 3's like crazy.. especially with the jump down from the near-luxury Speed3 to this, it hurts. I still crave one again at some point.. but I figure I need to give this car a chance! NOTHING looks better than it, IMHO. :D

I pick up my 05 manual, Blue Onyx Pearl tomorrow afternoon.
I test drove 2 of the 05's, but I liked the manual tons more since it had much more power in acceleration.
I am totally stoked about it.

Power ?? Lol.. what were you driving before? Granted, you can always utilize more power from a manual than auto. :D

I finally got my xBox! I'm so psyched!

When I went to Japan back in '01, I thought I'd have to import some sort of box. Then, Scions came out in the U.S. and in high school I knew I had to have one. Parents never got me one, or a car and I ended up moving out.

Now that I'm on my own, I finally got the pleasure of buying one!

I bought mine from the Lithia Toyota in Vacaville. '04 xB with 100,000 miles for $8800. I know it's plenty of miles, but this was the only one that I could afford.

Here are pix from the Craigslist ad:

The xB is very underpowered, but it is one of the few cars that can get away with it because it is so light in weight. Even the tC weighs 600 + lbs more and it has a small interior.
Every road has a speed limit, so I don't think being slow is as big of a deal that people make it. Speed is completely ineffiecient and impractical, but fun, so that may draw someone to a Mustang or something. People are always surprised when I tell them my xB has a 1.5 litre engine. It the most perfect car in my opinion. I love mine.

What's mostly disappointing to me is the gas mileage.. yeah it's good, but you'd figure with being so lightweight, it should be rated at at LEAST in the upper-30's highway. Hell my 3500lb Mazda3, 170hp, was at 32mpg.. 50 more hp is far greater than 2 additional mpg, imo. :/ And the fact that I am not getting as great gas mileage as I should in my xB isn't helping!

I know a guy that has gotten 37mpg out of a tank. You have to pretty much roll to a stop, accel slowly eveywhere, and never pass anyone. I bet all these grandmas I see driving them get really good mileage.

I just bought mine. It's an '04 in Black. I'm still a little confused on all this RS1 stuff. Is every first gen an RS1? I'm quick to learn so help me out guys and gals. By the way, I haven't seen car comaraderie like this since I had my Bug. It's Awesome!

I traded in a 97 VW cabrio-tuned and fixed up but almost 200,000 miles-I went to test drive the grey box-just test drive. Left mt cabrio there signed some paperwork that allowed me to take it from the dealer for the weekend so the wife could drive it-they lied a whole bunch and I got stuck with the XB without the input of the wife and they scared her into signing away her part of the VW.

Lots of bad feelings and she thought the XBwas not the best looking vehicle anyway but she needed it one night to make quite a few trips with some friends hauling plants no less-I was at work so she had it all to herself.

The next morning she very quietly said maybe she liked it more than her car.

Thundercloud grey, polished 18 inch wheels and low-pros (since converted to black 17 Konig's with Michelins-mich better) OBX exhaust, shift know, pedal covers all dealer installed so warrantied, driving lights (they don't seem to do much but look good), removed snorkel (it helps a little) and that's it until I get a header and intake in teh next few months

Ive been getting about 35 (34.8 to be exact) driving on the highway, gunning it to accelerate, and passing when I please. i don't drive like grandma by any means. There might be factors involved tho. Is it true a turbo will boost MPG?

Hmm, the only reason I could possibly think of is that the engine doesn't have to struggle up hills with so much power.

Anyone think it slides really easy in rain, even with TCS?

That's what I do.. I try to be very conservative with mine.

Is that with the A/C on? How about cruise? I've been using A/C an don't have cruise, so I'm guessing that may be my problem..
