The Tahoe has its place... there are people who really need the space and pulling power of a big SUV and not to mention its off road capabilities. It is also designed for heavy duty work and isn't made of thin tin like the xB. Like I said, it has its place.
She lives less than a mile from work and still drives to work! She also drives a 2WD Tahoe, as do most people who drive large SUV's in the south, so it's off-road prowess is probably less than my 4WD Tercel. Seriously.

She doesn't tow anything with it, or use it for anything that it was designed for, like 95% of SUV owners.

I'm not an SUV hater. I'm a "people who buy SUV's for status symbols" hater.

Agreed.

I had to get used to the way it looks, if anything, and I don't appreciate even the positive attention it attracts. I don't need people gawking at my car and I don't really care to be interrupted while going about my business to explain what the car is etc.

I'd love the car, but I'd love it even more if no one noticed it.

First of all I just want to thank the Thunder Cloud xB that let me in the left lane getting off the GCP onto the LIE he flashed me I flashed back (we know the deal).
I get more positive than negative remarks .. The best was this guy racing up to me in a 98 Ford Explorer,
I saw him coming and I’m thinking he needs directions. So I roll the window down he asked me YOOO

Is that one of them Sky-Ons .. I said yep it’s a sky-on so how many miles to the gallon do you get with that THING .
Well as I heard him calling the box THING I replied, what Gas Dude this thing runs on 20 car batteries. IT gets 300 miles to the charge full.
Thank god the light turned green and then I smoked him.

The kids on my block love it . They call it the clown mobile . I think I may just put a mean clown on the back window.

In general, I agree with Rion (for once, wow). Personally though, I don't take it upon myself to judge people without really knowing them. I like to see the facts for myself upfront. It is entirely plausible that the woman has a legitimate purpose for owning an SUV (however it is unlikely). My problem primarily lies with SUV drivers who don't know how to drive their SUV's. It's a big truck, not a sports car. Those type of people (regardless of judgement) are a danger to all people on the road. If they weaved and drove crazy on open road, then fine, but seeing SUV's swerve from lane to lane on congested highways is intolerable.

Motorcycle's require a seperate license, even though they pose no danger to automobiles. SUV's put us all at risk (under the wrong hands) and they should require additional testing/skill levels to drive.

How do you know the lady who you see driving an SUV isn't towing something on the weekend.
If you read my response, you will see that I noted that she lives less than a mile from work and doesn't tow anything with it.

We all know how many of the people who drive those things actually "need" them. At least 80% of the ones I see have ONE person in them and they are used as daily drivers. For every guy who uses it to tow a 6,000 lb sailboat or drive up a muddy mountain trail pulling 3 trailers behind him, there are 10 stupid housewives driving the kids to soccer practice while yaking on their cell phones and changing lanes without signalling or looking.

How is it that most of the rest of the world somehow manages to live without our big dumbestic "fullsize" fuel slurping SUVs? They have boats and trailers and muddy roads in Europe too, but they don't fvckin have Tahoes and Expeditions jamming up their roads and backing into them in parking lots. It's all about the worst of America. Big, dumb and screw everyone else if the get in my way.

The woman he mentioned totally typifies the average owner of these trucks, it's either a dumb woman like that, or a redneck dipsh1t with something to prove.

What makes you an authority on who should drive SUV's.
How do you know the lady who you see driving an SUV isn't towing something on the weekend. Or maybe they are not hauling something at the moment.
Just because some other parts of the world don't have these large SUV's doesn't mean they wouldn't own one if their economy and needs could support them.
There obviously is a demand for them or people would be driving something else. But I suppose everyone is stupid and only you made the right choice.
I personally don't need a large SUV. But I'm glad I have a choice to own one if the need should ever arise. The rest of the world only wishes they could have as many choices.
Just my opinion, that's all. The rest of the world is lucky to have safer roads because their citizens don't drive fvcking construction sized wanna-be big rigs.

Oh and it's ironic that most of these people will tell you how patriotic they are and frequently have "God Bless Our Troops" and "W" stickers on their giant rigs while they are making terrorist countries rich by driving a vehicles that get 9 mpg. God Bless America though.
all that I have to say, if my opinion matters which I don't care, is that it comes to a point where you don't have an opinion until they are driving u off the road and endangering their stupid kids watching their stupid cartoons while mommy is talking to her stupid girlfriends.... there are no suv's used around here for off roading or hauling...thats why they made trucks and jeeps....And it is almost gauranteed everytime they have those damn stickers on their esuvees while they are flippin' u off and cuttin' u off

I have a lady around her who just got a hummer for christmas and she said she begged for it and how great it is she is one of the fortunate ones that can afford 9 mpg. She is a known trophy wife around here....its Iowa...cmon..there is no need for esuvee it's all a big fat "W" con

So good to know there are people that can tell me what I need and don't need. Sure hope someone doesn't tell them they don't need a lowered car, louder muffler, bigger engine, etc. Worry about how someone drives, not what they drive. Once you start deciding what is right for someone else, you really should look over your shoulder and wonder who doesn't approve of what you drive or do as well.

I just traded in my little Honda del Sol for a nice little xB, but if I want to buy an SUV, it is my choice. Just as it is my choice if I drive my motorcycle at times. I know the risk and choose to take it. Just quit be careful when you tell someone what makes sense for them to drive or we will all be back on bicycles or horses.

man this thread is so worthless. . . so off topic and full of ranting and whining. Why can't people just state facts and useful information rather than opinions and judements all alike. I'm all for freedom of speech, but bickering like kids is pointless.

about a year and a half ago my gf (now fiance) were pulling into a restaurant with my shiney new box... from inside we saw a big burly man in his 50's with his wife pointing and laughing and my car... i just shrugged it off, and started getting out of the car when i noticed the older couple heading straight for us... prepared for the "your car is ugly" or "what the hell is that" quotes that i expected would come sooner or later... his eyes wide open, he said "nice ride bro!.." startled a bit i said "thanks"... and we ended up sitting there for about 15 minutes chatting about it...

notable quotes:
"... it came from the factory looking like that?"...
"... holy crap hon, check this out, there's all kinds of room in here"...
"... seats five?... just like our truck"... (they had an explorer)...
"... can i get one?"... to the wife...

Never seen so many fullsize trucks with 6 inch lifts and 36" tires in MY LIFE as I do in Arizona. I imagine only Texas could be worse. It's really disgusting.
Try sourthern califonia dude. Way to many yokels around here toting around the lifted trucks. in my neighborhood (going to say about 350 houses) there are atleast 90 homes with HUGE raised trucks, with those extremely loud tires and air horns
I'm from So Cal (25+ years, born & raised) and now in Texas for about 6 months. I thought So Cal had a lot of trucks and SUV's, but dude, Cali's numbers are nothing compared with Texas. SUV's and full-sized trucks outnumber "regular" passenger cars 2:1. It's totally frustrating - can't see squat on the freeway because of the wall of trucks and SUV's that block everyone. On the otherhand, there aren't as many Scions on the road in TX as there are in CA, which makes owning one in my new neck 'o the woods something of a novelty.

I can honestly say however, that in TX, I'm the only person I've heard use the horn (except once when I accidentally pulled in front of a lady at an intersection - my bad). Most everyone else traveling down 75/ 635 are relatively laid back compared to drivers in So Cal. I haven't been flipped off once. I haven't been motioned to, to pull over so I can get into a fist-fight. Haven't seen any ricers chasing one another down the freeways (not ever in TX). We have our share of problems here, mind you - but they're different (and the people here can't bloody use a cell phone and drive simultaneously - it's frightening!).

During my daily commute to Seattle, my "anti-Hummer" gets waves from kids, generally friendly looks and the occasional prune face....

I don't drive an xB myself. I've got an xA. But whenever I mention to folks that my new car is a Scion, they assume it's an xB. *shrugs* The xB's not my style. But once you spend time looking at them as opposed to just a quick glance they're just so. . . unique.

I traded in my BRIGHT FRIGGIN GREEN New Beetle for the xA and, even stock, the Scions are hella meaner looking than that little guy. So I'm used to the states and giggles.

Props to all you xB drivers and the totally sweet things you're doing with them. Sometimes I wonder if I shoulda gotten the xB instead. . . . . .Naaaaah.

If you wanted to drive what everyone else was driving, the road would be a boring place.

I laugh at my own box. Seriously, it's funny looking. That's a big part of why I bought it. I haven't caught anyone else laughing at it yet.

There's a local guy that drives a Camo xB and he used to have an evil clown decal that covered his back glass. Last time I saw the xB, it was gone.

(not a pic showing the back, but it's the same xB):

Here, when you get your auto driver's license it also entitles you to drive a motorcyle, and even states it on the license. I guess we don't need the extra tax revenue all those seperate licenses would generate!

As far as parking goes Scions are great. I watched this stupid a$$ housewife try to park her Expedition four times.
Eventually she gave up and moved to another space with no cars around it. I was keeling over with laughter and was about to say something but decided I'd be nice.

On a side note, when I was X-Mas shopping all the spaces at the mall were full I managed to fit my Scion in a crosswalk and still had plenty of room on the side.

It was wonderful!
