Shifting Problem
I tried searching but didn't have any luck. My Xb just started to have a problem shifting, when I start out from a stop and try to shift into second the shifter will not go into second! I row the shifter up and down and side to side and cannot find any gears! Finally I get it back down into first and proceed down the road and slowly and carefully pull it down into second and then through the other gears. It's done this four times in the last three days, does anyone have a guess on whats happening. The car only has 16,000 miles and I don't beat on it either. TIA

There's a TSB on this. It's nothing serious. The retaining clips for the shifter cables can work their way loose and need to be put back into position.
Take it to your Scion dealer and all will be well. Repair shouldn't take very long either.

Well it turned out that BOTH cables were bad and binding inside the casing. Drove a cobalt for 2 days while it was being fixed...not enjoiable at all and it got exceptionally crappy 24mpg to boot. Thanks for all the input, oh yeah; wholeflaffer cut back on the cafiene
Sorry, man. Just figured the dealer could help you out better than us armchair mechanics in our virtual garages. I certainly don't mind hearing about the problems other owners are experiencing, and their stories of what it took to get them fixed, though.
