Default Something I just don't understand.

Some people here complain about the xA not having enough power.

However, I find that if I keep RPM's above 3k, the car is pretty quick.

One of the reasons I like the xA is because you've got to work the throttle to keep the RPM's up. I guess that's not some people's forte.

To me, it seems as though the 1NZ is a good free revving motor. That is the secret to keep the xA moving.

i feel that car lacks the most from the very low rpms and the very high rpms...from 3k-5k the car is peppy. I am just dissapointed that the car doesnt really have great highway passing power...

Maybe I've just conditioned my baby for fast highway driving, but she holds her own when dropping to 4th so long as I don't try to go above 75ish.

(It's not abuse, it's tough love!)

With just intake and header (didn't have my exhaust yet), my xA pulls pretty well in 5th gear. With intake/header/exhaust, I take highway trips in 5th gear, never needing to downshift.

i usually drive around town goin like 50 or so which is what. 2.5, 3k rpm. its got nice pickup when i need it. yeah driving under 2.5 kinda sux but hey thats how it is for all vehicles. higher fireing frequency means enough power to what weight the car is and ratio the tranny is. just a general equation automotive engineers take into concideration. even a V12 lambo has the same effect. though its HP at 1.5k rpm is prolly still 3 times an xa

No complaints from me in the acceleration dept. However I am coming off of 55,000 miles of my previous car which was an Echo, so my xA has to seemingly have more zip due to the gearring> But I really do like the gearring, it is just right for me anyways! The car gets out of its own way enough for me, and I grew up on mostly V8 cars. I do miss the V8 sometimes... Can't win them all I guess!

Should have got the 5 speed. Way better highway performance due to gearing differences.

i have a five speed with just a cold air intake but i was just commenting that the xa doesnt have much power in upper rpms.. i was just accustomed to driving dohc vtec where most of the power was reached in the upper register.

Agree completely. I took delivery of my RS 1.0 today. I traded in a Dodge Dakota with a 4.7l V8 for it, and it actually feels faster overall than my pickup. It's not a sports car by any means, and it tends to run out of power on the top end rather quickly, but it is a very quick car. In terms of available torque, i've actually found that I have to be less concerned with what gear I'm in than I was on the monster V8. I just don't get some of these reviews I've read that call it "gutless" - are these people coming off Corvettes or Mustang GTs and then comparing it to them?

How fast are you going when you do this "dropping"?

Do you blip the throttle first...

Must really move you when you do it!

Not enough power eh?? Well, I have a mostly stock xA, in terms of power; SAFC-II controller, and an axle-back exhaust. But I've topped the car out at 115 mph, on an unnamed road on an unnamed island I live in :D. As far as acceleration, the xA leaves something to be desired upon. But after that top speed run, I can't complain about it. Smooth all the way through.

Yeah. . . I also shift into 3rd on the highway, just make sure that you are under 77mph. . . 75 is my safety margin. Any faster and the car gets mad at me. 2nd and 3rd gears are my favorites in this car.
