sound deadener in fenderwell!!
does anybody else have trouble with stained plastic on the rear fender of their box?the sound deadener they sprayed in my fenderwells gets wet and my tires sling it up on my fender and i try to scrub it off but my fender is stained.i have a PW xb.the dealer said it was armor all so when i put my new tires and rims on i didnt spray anything on them and i still have the same problem.
That sounds like you got sold a bunch of crap...... Sound deadner? Most of the noise does not come from the wheel wells it comes from the sound of the tires on the road eminating through the suspension to the frame and body. All of the spray on foam in the world is not going to "deaden" the sound. Sorry to say it but what ever you spent on that is money better spent elsewhere.
I think Lantzdarla is talking about the factory sound deadener that's sprayed in the wheelwells... Right? Or something the dealer did?
I'd try removing the stains with rubbing compound and/or bleach, seeing as how the box is white in the first place... then getting a good coat of wax on it, particularly the affected areas. I'd be very careful with either method, testing on someplace hidden first, and going very gently, particularly with rubbing compound...
Apparently our boxes aren't compatible with armorall on a lot of areas. If the undercoat was damaged by a previous application of the stuff, you'll just have to wait for the undercoat to slough off, or find some way to remove the damaged undercoat, pre-empt the process....

I think all car manufacturers put some kind of black stuff in the fenderwells nowadays.
When I was doing a lot of shows and cruises with the Impala SS, someone gave me a great tip to hit the inside of the fenderwells (around the tires) with a hose for the heavy dirt and/or mud and then spray tire shine or a similar product on it and all the light dirt would run down with the foam and the wells would look black and new again. And they were right!
Unfortunately, over time, I think it took much of that coating as well, causing them to take on a kind of rusty look
So now I have to pull the wheels and paint the wells with some POR or Rustoleum or something.

when i got my xb there was only one white one between all three dealerships.i didnt want to wait for an ordered xb so i bought the only white one they had.i didnt really want the rubber(aka sound deadener) on it but it was already there.it is sprayed all over the bottom of the xb and it may be in the doors.they could have used better stuff, because this stuff doesnt dry at all.thanks for the cleaning tips!!!
