Default Strange Noise Sounds Like An Old VW Bus/Bug

Hello!

As the topic says, my box makes a strange noise when accelerating from 0-25mph.

It sounds like an old Volkswagon bus engine.

Im sure it is just a part but I dont know much about under the hood.

any insight would be great!

Thanks,

-Kevin

I see you added an exhaust to your car , take a look at the gasket/donut , does it happen to be bad?

Sounds like the rear gasket has gone bad. I had to replace mine when I added the Strup axleback. They are like 10 bucks or so at the dealer.

It's located between the rear section and the rest of the exhaust. After several exhaust changes mine just fell apart. You only need to remove the clamp. Pull the pipes apart. Slip on the new gasket and reassemble. When the gasket is bad it will leak and allow the muffler assembly to move around and sometimes get too close to the bumper opening and melt the hole. Center the tip in the opening before final tightening of the clamp.
No problem on the quick response That is why we are here. To help fellow Scion Nuts.

easiest way is to open your hood, start the car and listen for the noise ( getting a buddy to help is great).

one gasket is between the head and header ( exhaust manifold), second is where the header connects to the pipe w/cat converter, resonator, the third ( which is one that maybe the problem ) is just over the rear axel ( when you added the new exhaust this is the most likely one to get damaged )

hope this helps

I brought the car in a few months ago. They replaced a "doughnut" in the exhaust. So far it has sounded better than what it was. Thanks for the advice everyone!
