Tape off the doors
Yours definitly has the tape, all you have to do is look, and you will know that it is tape, also if you look at the piller between the doors when you open them up, you should have a long block of black tape on the piller. and if you notice, the tape part is a dull black, as I see from your picture.
You Peeps are just silly. Some earlier xB's had no tape. People were then painting the window frames with black paint or taping them themselves.
Now Toyota decided to put the black tape on all xBs. Now you all think it will be better without it! Doh!
Look at your car. When the tape is on the entire side glass area is uniform looking. Like one large solid glass area. It is smooth and well blended.
When you take the tape off the rear window is larger. It no longer gives the illusion of one uniform glass area. This is especially noticable on lighter colored cars.
Hey, take the tape off. But I think the car doesn't look good without the black tape.

In order for the black thing to look right. They should have painted the window frames gloss black to match the glass. They took the short cut and now it allows us to stand apart from the other stock boxes. Why is this such an issue with you?
Also, if uniform look was the goal.... Why didn't they use the same glass in the front doors as the rest of the windows???

Because in some states (California) it's illegal to have your front windows tinted.
Even though it's a common mod...

I would have to agree with your statement. they should have pained it with gloss black, and also factory tinted the front windows to creat this "uniform look." They used mate black tape and expected it to look good. unfortunatly that was not the case. When I paint my car, the tape is going to be gone, and those pillars are going to be gloss black not this fake crap.
I guess everyone has their own opinion on how their car should look, as for me, I love custom. I just can't afford it.

the front windows are tinted, just not as much as the rear, the reason they didn't tit it as dark is 1. its illegal in most states(maybe all) and 2. its harder to see at night with dark tinted front windows, what I do wish they would allow, is a tint on the windshield that would help dull glare from headlights and the sun, and not blind you so much
well I'm going to have my front windows tinted to match the backs, but I wish I could find a tint that would cut down on the light from the sun and headlights that I could put on my windshield

Gloss black would have been a better choice. But this is a low end cheap car for goodness sakes. We are lucky that Toyota applied the black tape for us in the first place. Painting would have introduced couple of extra steps (like masking and spray painting). And that adds to the production costs.
As far as tinting goes, it is to comply with the US laws. In most states it is illegal to have dark tint in the front side windows.
Just look at any factory stock SUV or wagon type of vehicle sold at the dealers. None have the front windows darkly tinted but most do have the back windows tinted.
The xB (like most other cars) does have slight green tint to the front side windows and windshield. Again, that is how most of this type of vehicles are manufactured. And legal.

Is there a clearcoat on the paint under the covered area?
Anybody have a pic of a Camo Green XB with this done to it?
