Trac kicking in to easily???

The VSC works with both a yaw rate sensor down near the gear shift lever, and a steering wheel angle sensor. Maybe that's why some poeple felt it going off in only right or left hand corners. Sometimes our very own built in yaw rate sensors in our brains won't let us make a hard corner, either left or right.

And Yes, it will put the brakes on at just one wheel if it senses the need. And it's usually the back one.

There is way more to the system than just those two sensors though, and one of the biggest parts of the system is the anti-lock brakes. You could never have a stability control system without anti-lock brakes.
