Default Whats the most gas durring a fillup?

This week I streched my low gas warning, and went below the emty mark.

Need less to say I made it to a gas station. I filled it up, didnt even try to get that little bit extra in it after auto-shutoff.

I ended up putting in 11.2 gallons

Like Clint Eastwood said, "A Man has to know his limitations".

Keep in mind that some gas station owners "fix" their own pumps... if you know what I mean.

For example, let's pretend that we're allowed to have a 10% deviation from accurate measurement.

Station A gives you 10% more than accurate, and station B gives you 10% less than accurate. And both pumps will be within specifications. Now imagine if one were at 15%. That's a 25% discrepancy. Heck, even the same station and different pump may yield varying results.

Sure the sticker may say that it's been checked for calibration, but between the course of a year, alot may have changed.

So i don't trust the pumps down to the tenths of the gallon.

The entire 11.9 gallons may not be accessible to the fuel pick up. If the car is not on level ground, if the gas sloshes, if the tank has reinforcing valleys stamped in the bottom, if the fuel pick up has to have 3/8" clearance between it and bottom - alone or in combination these factors could put the last half-gallon out of reach.

I've done what you have done more than a few times. I generally hit 10.2 to 10.8 but i haven't reached 11 gallons filled up.

I've put in more than 11 gallons more than a dozen times, the most being like 11.4.
I usually don't fill up until I reach at least 330 miles.

When the low fuel light comes on you've got like 3 gallons left = 90 miles to go.
