Isn't that after new EPA regulations, which weren't in place for the 2006 model? I'm being told the real difference is about 4-5 MPG between generations. I think that is reasonable if performance is indeed better. According to posters on the 3nd gen forum, I'm hearing 26-28 is the average MPG. I was getting maybe 30-31 on average.

Thanks bigshrek, good news is I'm getting a decent deal from insurance + GAP... now to find another car.

damn...i hope you find the right xB for you...the gen2 is nice but not for me, go to the dealership and have them check the surrounding states toyota dealerships for a new xB1 or a used one with lower miles, thats what i had to do with mine, there was not a PW xB in the state of mississippi so the dealership got on the phone and about an hour later it was being shipped from louisiana...its always worth a try...

Drove the xB2 today, put a deposit on my dealer's only PW auto.

Getting a great deal from GAP and my insurance company, so the xB2 is now affordable. The thing that really made the deal for me was additional safety features. The look I'm not sure about quite yet, but I felt the same way about the xB1 after I got it.

The dealer couldn't locate any _automatic_ xB1s that were able to be shipped to them yesterday, so I was SOL there anyway. My rental needs to be returned on Monday, so I had to make a deal locally (couldn't drive for hours to get the xB1 in a city).

Thanks everybody for their supportive comments! Expect mods to come in the 2gen forum. :D

Thanks fztcar for the car post, however, I now have my 08 xB and I'm glad I spent the extra money on it. I still like the 1st-gen; however, the new xB fixes a lot of annoyances of the older model.

Unfortunately, that used car is also 350 miles away from me... the Toyota dealer I got the 08 from was only 20 miles away... made it easier to buy.

daneisthegreatest, I can't remove anything else off the car for insurance purposes (they already calculated the settlement mount). Sorry about that, I would like to help you out if I could.
