xB Manual, What is rpm at 70 mph ?
Hi all, I'm thinking of a xB, and was wondering do they have enough oomph? I keep reading where they are underpowered.
I have a bug now and it runs well over 3000 rpm at 70 mph, what does a xB run rpm wise at 70?
I'm wanting a stick, that should help.
Anyone have any feedback?
Thanks!

Just using the stock tire size, the differential ratio, and the top gear ratios of the xB with manual or auto transmission I come out with these figures, plus or minus maybe 10 RPM...
AUTOMATIC:
2560 RPM @ 60 MPH
2990 RPM @ 70 MPH
MANUAL:
3070 RPM @ 60 MPH
3580 RPM @ 70 MPH
Hope that helps...

Yup.
Engine RPM for the manual transmission xB at a true 80 MPH should be 4090 RPM with stock tire diameter (3410 RPM for the automatic).
The ratios are already in the tech section, but just for interest, here they are again:
(tire rev per mile) * (final ratio) * (trans gear ratio) = (engine RPM at 60MPH)
(Remember, too, that this is the *actual* speed and RPM, not what the instruments show - they have tolerences and errors...most speedometers are optimistic. :? )

Code:
Gear / Ratio C150 5MT U340E 4AT
1st 3.54:1 2.84:1
2nd 1.90:1 1.55:1
3rd 1.31:1 1.00:1
4th 0.96:1 0.70:1
5th 0.81:1 –
Reverse 3.25:1 2.34:1
Final Drive 4.31:1 4.15:1
(Stock tire revolutions per mile = 880)

Thank you for the offer, HotXB!
Wouldn't want to put you through the trouble of making one, though, Is it OK if I build a white one based on yours? Looks like a nice straightforward job. The most creative part is having the idea. :D

I pulled 3500rpm at 65 for 1600 miles. Nothing complained. A little loud... the buzzy purr of a 4 banger is hard to quiet down. It might be high, but the gearing's low to make it possible to haul around close to 3000 pounds (my stuff + someone else's stuff) at highway speeds, and toyota isn't going to make an engine that won't handle it. My xB drives as good or better than it did the day I brought it home 5k ago.
