Default xB Starts then stalls :(

My wife had her 2005 xB in park with it running, she heard a loud pop from the engine and smoke starting rising out from the front of the hood. The car stalled right then and there.
The problem is the car will start but then will immediately stall unless I keep my foot on the pedal giving it gas. Anyone know what might have caused this pop and smoke, and why the stalling is now occurring?

All vacuum lines seem to be in place, Should I check the fuses? There is some sort of sensor that sits on top of the big air filter hose, might be the MAF sensor, should I look into this?

Thanks.

Where is the MAF located?? Is it located near the Air filter box like I'm thinking?

It is not a MAF.

Take it to a Toyota dealer.

something tells me that there is more to the story than you want other people to know, cars just don't do that without something leading up to it.

Sounds like for some reason it backfired and the pop might have been the intake manifold breaking...I have seen this on one other xB....

If the manifold broke would it not run as if it were wide open?

No it would sound like a vacuum leak..a big one..sucking air nad is would run for only a few seconds or less then die..unless you "play" with the throttle and keep it going.
