Yeah I was gonna order the whole door handle and he found out you can just get the cover. Oh well now I know what it looks like when I go get it. LOL

That looks really clean, but one question:

What do you do if the battery in your remote dies when the doors are locked? I understand that if the lock was still there it would be easy to pop the cap off and use the key, but you took out the lock.

There are drawback to a clean look. I guess I will be the guy with the stupid look on the side of the road.

REPLACE YOUR BATTERIES B4 THEY DIE, I guess.

Do you have to remove the lock, or can the caps just be swapped out?

I'm sure it's possible with some modding, but I think it's kind of pointless due to the fact that the cap won't pop off unless you pull it all out lock and all.

Makes sense, I just don't know how any of the lock assembly & caps go together, so I thought I'd ask. I guess if was as easy as I was hoping, then you wouldn't have removed the lock yourself. Thanks for the update, appreciated.

I was digging this until I saw that you have to take the lock out to get the cover off. If your battery dies, it's going to take some damage or serious diassembly to get under the hood to replace the battery.

If I was going to do this, I think I'd remove the original cover and reinstall the lock. Then I'd cutaway the back part of the new cover and use double-sided tape to hold it in place so it could be pulled off in an emergency.

I've never seen the inside of the front doors, but if the xB's battery died (so now you are presumably locked out & your remote won't unlock the doors) couldn't you just have a tow truck driver or locksmith slimjim the door unlocked, then pop the hood to replace the battery? Maybe I misunderstood something... help the xBnewbee.

I don't think it's possible to use a slim jim on the XB. The handle is connected to the door panel and it connects to the latch/lock by cables that go into the door cavity just before reaching the latch. I've never seen the latch mechanism but I'd bet it would be hard to snag.

Makes sense in this day and age... I remember the days of just tugging on the window glass (no window frames) of my '68 Dodge to use a coat hanger.

Default Slim Jim the lock

I work on a fire dept and we (not the police) do all (free of charge) the car lock outs in the city....... we don't use slim jims or over and under tools .....use use a plastic wedge and a tool called the BIG EASY ......we can get any car open in about 30 seconds, 2 minutes tops .......they cost about 40 bucks

isn't that the inflatable bag that you slide between the door and then just pump it and it inflates and separates the door enough to slide a little bar in? Those are the best if you lock your keys in the car constantly

Looks great!

I don't know what the rest of ya'll are talking about though. People have been shaving their handles and putting in door poppers for years now. This is pretty much the same thing.

That they have. But there's tricks with shaving handles. Door poppers go out, get out of alignment, etc. My prior daily driver was a shaved s-10. I didn't have poppers. Just a choke cable. I've installed poppers in cars but put charging posts for the batteries with in reaching distance for jumpstarts and getting in, etc.
