KEYHOLE COVER ALTERNATIVE
That looks really clean, but one question:
What do you do if the battery in your remote dies when the doors are locked? I understand that if the lock was still there it would be easy to pop the cap off and use the key, but you took out the lock.

Makes sense, I just don't know how any of the lock assembly & caps go together, so I thought I'd ask. I guess if was as easy as I was hoping, then you wouldn't have removed the lock yourself. Thanks for the update, appreciated.
I was digging this until I saw that you have to take the lock out to get the cover off. If your battery dies, it's going to take some damage or serious diassembly to get under the hood to replace the battery.
If I was going to do this, I think I'd remove the original cover and reinstall the lock. Then I'd cutaway the back part of the new cover and use double-sided tape to hold it in place so it could be pulled off in an emergency.

I've never seen the inside of the front doors, but if the xB's battery died (so now you are presumably locked out & your remote won't unlock the doors) couldn't you just have a tow truck driver or locksmith slimjim the door unlocked, then pop the hood to replace the battery? Maybe I misunderstood something... help the xBnewbee.
I don't think it's possible to use a slim jim on the XB. The handle is connected to the door panel and it connects to the latch/lock by cables that go into the door cavity just before reaching the latch. I've never seen the latch mechanism but I'd bet it would be hard to snag.
I work on a fire dept and we (not the police) do all (free of charge) the car lock outs in the city....... we don't use slim jims or over and under tools .....use use a plastic wedge and a tool called the BIG EASY ......we can get any car open in about 30 seconds, 2 minutes tops .......they cost about 40 bucks
isn't that the inflatable bag that you slide between the door and then just pump it and it inflates and separates the door enough to slide a little bar in? Those are the best if you lock your keys in the car constantly

Looks great!
I don't know what the rest of ya'll are talking about though. People have been shaving their handles and putting in door poppers for years now. This is pretty much the same thing.
