Thumbs up Unusual HID Problem, And I Need Your Help!

Hey everybody. I've been answering practically everyone's HID questions about bulb type, temperature, and whatever, but now I have an issue.

To cut it short, the driver's side beam is significantly brighter than the passenger side beam.

I was in communication with the vendor from whom I purchased the kit, HIDextra. They informed me to test the kit in at least two steps to ascertain the problem. I went above and beyond.

I switched the connections between the two and tested them. Switched the ballasts and tested them. And then switched the actual bulbs. And guess what? No change.

Which means that there is something wrong with my passenger headlamp, right?

So my question to you guys is this: when you put your HIDs in your xB's, are both your beams the same? I can't figure out for the life of me why the passenger light is dimmer when both kits function perfectly fine when I put them in the driver's side. When I first installed it, I didn't think anything of it, but two people have told me that there is a difference and it is bugging me.

So please ScionLife. Help me Pimp My Ride.

Ok not that its going to solve your issue but I had this problem...(Of course I did not know this was the issue right off the bat) but mine was because the bulb was not sitting right with in the unit itself and the bulb when lit was hitting the projector which made it seem brighter than my driver side... after a few days I saw the problem... I took my stock bulbs out the box that the hid kit came in and realized that the one of the lil orange boots was not on one of the bulbs so I removed both hid bulbs and thinking to myself maybe the lil boot somehow stood on the unit and is now on the hid bulb.... but no it was not on the bulb it was stuck somehow onto the housing of where the bulb sat (which cause the light not to sit right in the housing, making it hit the projector wrong and look brighter)..... so after a lil effort I was able to get the lil orange boot off the housing put my hids back on and they are fine now... the brighter one was not seated properly in the housing.... I dont know how much help that is or if you even checked that but hey its the closest thing I have to being in your same shoes!!!

Thanks for the help on this one. I'm going to have to play around with it for sure, because when I was testing this whole problem, it was late at night and I had an overhead lamp to work with. I might just work on it during the day.

I'm thinking that maybe there is a rubber seal or something that might be on the driver side and not on the passenger side that is precluding the light from sitting in the housing correctly. It's possible, but I won't know until I get a chance to properly look at it. Thanks for the help again.

definitely sounds like an alignment issue to me. Jay's right about those o-rings; they LOVE to stick to the housing.

After checking the seat of the bulbs, if that doesn't fix it, check the voltage coming in to the ballast, and make sure that you have a good power source.

How do I go about testing that? The only thing I can guarantee is that both HIDs are working perfectly as I tested it on the driver's side.

I'm thinking about putting in the old OEM lights in to see if there is any lighting issues with those, because I never noticed anything with my conventional Halogens.
