Default Replacing Plugs

I went to the dealer to get new spark plugs for my 2008Xb and was told the stock plugs are still good because they are iridium and they last to 100K miles. My experience is spark plugs should be changed at least every 25,000 miles. I have 37,000 and get 27 mpg at 75mph, mostly hwy driving. Any advice would be helpful.

yup stock plugs are good, no need to change them. i think only the 1st gen xb and xa required that you change the plugs at 60,000 miles.

actually, stock plugs in the first gen xa/xb need to be changed ever 30k miles. since they're just copper plugs.

but the 2azfe seems to come with iridium spark plugs which are good for up to 100k miles. so replacing them at 37k isn't necessary. hell, i didn't change mine until i got supercharged at like 55k miles.

Thanks for everyone's replies. I did take them out one by one to at least inspect them. All but one were OK. The one that was not had a small stalagtite growing on the ground strap. I'm going to replace all 4 with new iridium plugs. I saw the NGK iridiums are 7.00 each at O'reillys.

I did forget to mention...my XB does not shock me with static anymore now that I replaced the plugs. I'm not sure why but I am sure glad for it!

Fascinating, I'm interested in the explanation for that one -- and for an explanation for the shocks beforehand, for that matter !

Cold weather, drier air and static electrical charge buildup on the car explain the former shocks. I believe the cure for this is new plugs (aka the placebo effect). LOL!

I recommend inspecting them every 10-20K miles. I changed the wife's out at 60K miles because they looked a little chewed up. It's a cheap piece of insurance and is much cheaper than an engine.

Are the "colder" plugs for forced induction applications?

Christien was just the retelling of a true storie. Ocassionally cars come along that have personallity and ego and the ability to affect the material world. You should be carefull. I hate to think what might happen if you don't change the oil or let the tires go bald. What ever you do, don't smoke or eat in that car.

they are certainly unrelated...

as mentioned.. colder, drier weather allows for easier buildup of static.
and here's an idea.. hold something metal of the car before you set foot on the ground when you get out.

IIRC, Madmarx is running E3s with his Descendant turbo kit and likes them. I like my NGK Iridiums.
