Default Couple Concerns on my xB

I noticed some things today when I was washing my car (only to have it sprinkle later...)

Looks like when Toyota of Huntington Beach installed this spoiler they made a boo-boo...

Look it has RUST!

Does anyone else have damage like that on their xB?

The other thing I noticed that probably applies to everyone with the xB.

Lots of dirt and rocks collect in here

It made quite a mess on the driveway when I cleaned those out.

Of course i'm going to be bringing my car to the dealership to have them fix this damage however they can. And they'll also need to replace the driver side cowl. Mine is cracked.

They also didn't align the wheels they put on when I got the car... which isn't cool.

I'll basically have to drop it off with a laundry list of crap for them to do.

I hope they have the touch-up paint in stock.

Cracked cowl? You mean the black plastic piece below the wipers?

Did the dealer install your spoiler for sure or was it done at port?

Having installed my spoiler, I would have to say that those are marks from the installer not using a drill stop when drilling the mount holes for the spoiler. The instructions actually mention using a stop as I recall.

Hey at least they did not drill all the way through the inside piece.

You would think they could have at least touched up the paint after they damaged it. I would make the dealer fix it either way.

By the way, pop the little rubber corner pieces and the plug on the right and the wiring tube on the left out and check to see if they added any sealer of any kind when they installed the spoiler. If they did not it will leak into the inside of the hatch when it rains and it will be subject to corrosion where it was drilled.

You might even check for wiring damage on the drivers side. If they did not use a stop they probably did not tie the harness for the license plate lights and such that runs near the inboard hole (The one with the wiring tube) on that side. Also see if they installed the little rubber cap over the bolt and nut inside that hole. The cap provides protection against chaffing the wires. Looks like they did a pretty sloppy job so I would check this stuff over before you talk to them about the paint.

That sucks!
It's really looking more and more like Toyota was not ready for the new xB and it's accessories to roll out...

I think that it is hard to blame Toyota when a tech at the dealer failed to follow the very simple and thorough instructions provided with the spoiler by Toyota.

I was inferring to lack of proper training to install parts and the lack of availability of said parts with nationwide backorders.

I would hope they would not need training for a simple install like the spoiler.

I agree that there is definitely a problem with the availability of the parts. Just today I was wondering what the "dash appliqués" looked like for the 08. Cannot find one picture.
Another is the LED tail lights. They have had these listed since launch and they are still not available. And then obviously many are still having trouble getting spoilers and such.

Toyota/Scion just didn't anticipate Generation X buying out all of Generation Y's new toys

So yeah. Someone messed up my car and they are going to fix it.

I won't have any problems with getting it done. I'll post updates when I have 'em.

Thanks for the link. I don't see the part number I have seen associated with the dash appliqués on some sites, but that must be it since it is 5 pieces.

Guess I won't be doing that. I was looking for less silver not more.

Back on topic: Hope you have no problems getting it fixed Mike. Make sure they check out the whole installation. They really need to have a talk with the guy who failed to follow the instructions so he doesn't mess up more cars. You might even take a look at another car on the lot if they happen to have one with the spoiler.

I went to the dealer today to talk to them about my problems.

1) They are ordering a replacement driver's side cowl
2) They really messed up the spoiler install and are going to fix it as best as they can.
3) They let me know that the bumper appliqué that I have has been discontinued because it bubbles up badly. And to expect to get a replacement one when its available.
4) They are going to get my wheels aligned.

So they'll be taking care of it. Good!

I won't be able to go down there until about August 3rd... summer calculus...

OMG I just noticed in the first picture. The guy didn't really drill right through the black rubber corner piece on the right side did he?

Well, sorry to hear about all that Mike. I hope they get it all fixed to your satisfaction.

He sure did. On both sides they drilled right though those rubber pieces.

Holy crap that was sloppy!

I'm glad mine didn't come out that way. My dealership was pretty weak sales-wise (the finance guy seemed ____ed that I got my own financing too).Their Service department, however, seems pretty decent. they had a loaner ready and waiting for me when I dropped off my xB to have the 16" rims and spoiler installed.

I hope they get everything squared up with your vehicle.

I ordered my bumper aplique along with the cargo net the day after I got my XB. When I went to pick them up, they only had the cargo net and said there is a hold on the bumper aplique due to bubbling problems but don't know if it's the customer's fault(he applied it himself) or if the bumper aplique is defective. I still haven't got word from them yet.

I don't think any amount of training would fix that guy.
In the words of comedian Ron White, "You can't fix stupid."
