Default HID

I'd like to buy a HID kit for my 09 xB. Any advice in choosing color temperature ? I live in Philadelphia, PA and I just don't want to get a ticket for installing HID that is too bright. I'm torn between 5K and 6K.

Thanks for any advice.

search these forums for "mobile HID". I'd unofficially say that most of us got our HID kits from them.

4300k = most visible light. Appearance like factory HID lights. This is what you want if you want the most functional HIDs.

5000k = a little more blue. A little less visible light, but still awesome

After that the light gets more blue and into the purple range. Lots of people like the look.

5000k imo... much better than stock with that slight blue look of the expensive euro's. i'm in philly a lot and have never had any problems with the cops there or jersey.

Don't go over 5k. I'm actually wanting to switch to 4300k because it can be tough at times to see when driving on very dark (tar) concrete. Driving on "light color" concrete is amazing though *shrugs*.

Wrong all factory HID headlights range from 4100-4300k.

hhhmmm... sounds like 5k is a win-win situation. Not completely blue, making it easy to drive on dark roads, and brighter than stock!!

I just bought a set of 6000K 35w kit off e bay for $60... I like the color but it's not as bright as I expected... I guess I'll live with my decision/mistake for now.

I do have a problem with my kit though. one of the ballast would shut off after the light comes on for a few second... any idea why and how I can fix the problem?

I contacted the e bay seller and he asked me to pay him another $15, and ship the bad ballast back at my cost, then he'll send me another ballast... I'm not happy about that... any suggestion?

I think the issue is the distance between the filament and projector lens is different with an HID bulb vs a standard halogen. I find that the low beam illuminates the ground at greater distances but the first 30-50 feet get illuminated by the fog lights almost entirely. This could just be because I was used to having light scattering everywhere with my 05 tC with HIDs

Check your connections to make sure that they're all solid and secure.
