You'd be suprised how far away you can be from a truck and get this benifit.

I put the car on cruise last trip down I 5 and got up to what I remember was a 3 second gap before the instamilage dropped.

If my wife drives it in town, we get around 23. I went to Vegas over the weekend and it got 25. At least an hour of that trip was at 85+ when my buddy drove.

Here's my last 6 fill-ups. The first 4 are from my trip up and back down from San Francisco. I'm happy to know that I can get better than the advertised 28 highway MPG.

The bottom 2 rows have been from my normal weekly (work) routine. Check out the average speed. That stat is very telling. With normal driving, which consists of traffic and city driving, I wouldn't try to push 300 miles/tank. On a road trip averaging 60+ mph, I'd go closer to 400 miles between fillups.

avg spd, miles, gallons, actual mpg, computer mpg, theoretical range,
62, 229.5, 7.688, 29.9, 30.8, 417.9
59, 250.1, 8.993, 27.8, 29.3, 389.3
43, 228.6, 10.389, 22, 24, 308.1
68, 284.8, 10.172, 28, 28.8, 392.0
21, 252.9, 11.036, 22.9, 24.6, 320.8
24, 242, 10.375, 23.3, 24.7, 326.6

That doesn't seem too bad considering that you live in the mountians, it's snowy, and you don't drive far (judging from your other posts). Get it out on the open road and you'll see closer to 30 mpg. Our cars have a pretty wide range of gas mileage. My old Xterra would get 16.5 mpg no matter what. I think I got 17.5 once on a road trip.
