I'm at 3k and It's been four months since I bought it. I'v always been told never to go more than 3 months or 3k. Is that oil really not going to break down for the next 2k or 2 months?

It will be fine! Although, most of us have done it earlier.

I did mine at 3500 and next week I will be getting my second comp. service at 7000. Then do my own change at 10,000 and every 5k after that with a synthetic oil.

But in the end 5,000 will be fine!

I drive mostly on the freeway and 60 - 70 % is at cruising speed so I will probably wait till 5K.. but then again. Ive only had the car since Jan 27th and have already put on 1100 miles on it.

I personally would not go longer than 4 months without changing the oil if I drive everyday even if its not at the recommended milege.

And actually thats the way I understood the interval.. every 5K or 4 months since average is 15K miles per year

5k miles isnt too bad but i personally wouldnt go past that

I was told do the oil change at 1000 miles for break in by my dealer. They said the engine is broken in around 800-1000 wther or not he knows what he is talking about is true i guess il find out lol

Changing your oil at 5k miles is OK but the worst you can do to your oil is letting it idle in your engine too much. This will basically "cook" your oil and thicken it inside your engine...something you don't want to happen.
Basically you should change your oil at 3K miles to be safe!

lol i changed my factory oil at 1000

i think thats the general consensus for Brand New car oil...
