As a tech. I will not use autozone parts. Napa is all I use and all I recommend

From what I've read (see water pump pink line thread) the current Toyota pump should correct the seal problem. If someone knows this to be incorrect, please update the sticky thread accordingly.

They did update the part, not sure when though. Mine got replaced late 2008, early 2009 iirc and Ive had no issues with the warranty replacement.

If it's a quality part, you don't need a lifetime guarantee. The part should just work on it's own and not need a useless guarantee.

Indeed, however, if you buy it as part of a built car, then the "lifetime" is less clear. I'm uncertain as to how to ascertain a "quality" part, but I'm still hoping my 2008 water pump will last ! I suggest not presuming your water pump pulley seal is good, take a look under your hood occasionally and be certain nothing is amiss.

I had zero problems at 99,000miles, and at 106k, I got the pink line.

What was wrong with my pump wasn't the pink line of coolant because of the seal, it was the bearings they were shot

Sadly when it comes to waterpumps on the 2.4l, the reverse is correct. YOu will most likely save more with the aftermarket pump then the OEM. The OEM pump is junk.

Also car makers contract part manufacture out and the cheapest bid most of the time wins. Take the Scion headunit for example ether Pioneer or Alpine made it(it may say Scion on the corner but still not made by Toyota)

Welcome to the world of manufacture.

FWIW, my '90 Eclipse water pump requires replacement around 1200 miles (twice the timing belts). These things aren't intended to last forever, the key is to understand how long to expect. If I can expect a similar lifetime for my xB2 waterpump, I've no complaints. If longer, that's great ! However, from reading, my current impression is less !

My water pump started leaking out at 43k or so. Granted 3 to 4k were with a turbo but still. Again tc1 but same engine so I'd guess same parts etc

Your dealer is full of it. You only replace a water pump when it goes bad. There is no time or mile limit on it.

The only time you would think about replacing your water pump even if it is working good and causing no issue is when the water pump is being driven by the timing belt and is behind the cover and it is time for a replacement timing belt, then you would replace it because you have everything apart already and it is not too much more labor to replace it. (Older Honda's and Fords with the 1.9 and 2.0l engines had this)

The waterpump was redesigned. My oem replacement has been good for 45k miles and it's one that was made prior to the redesign.

Aftermarket is junk from my personal experience. Everything is cheap quality that is designed to last you just after the warranty. I will go OEM from now on.

Water pump and timing belt at 90k, not just the water pump.
