Default 17" tire size question

Hey guys we own an XB2 & ended up with an extra set of wheels that I want to use to replace the stock 16's. Only problem I have is that we haven't lowered the car yet and are at stock height. I was wanting to know what size tire would best suit the 17 in. wheel without sacrificing mpg and perhaps end up with a bigger wheel gap. Would a bigger tire work or just use something recommended for 17's? Thanks in advance!

You mentioned that you haven't lowered the car yet. I need to know what you plan on lowering with (which springs, or if you'll be going with coilovers or air bags) as well as the width and offset of the 17" wheels.

The wheels are 17x7 or 7.5 I believe and I don't plan on lowering anytime soon. I plan on doing bags in the future but for now just wanted something besides the hubcaps to roll on daily. I am not familiar with the offset though.

Ditching the bag idea all together plan on doing a tein coilover. For now the car will remain stock height. I have a set of lexus is300 wheels that are 17". The recommended tire is a bit skinny for the gap I think 215/50/17 might work? Any thoughts?

Thanks for the info, I finally got the tires & only other issues I had were getting the correct lug nuts & determining tire pressure. Using a factory wheel requires the mag seat with washer for anyone who is wanting to do something like this. Also I learned you can still use oem tire pressure recommendations even on an upgraded wheel size like this. I didn't realize the speed rotation was an issue also so your tire recommendation is on point, should not affect the speedometer rating or mpg. I hope to get some better mpgs but we'll see. Thank you.
