hmmm looks like some material needs to be removed to create the mesh intake area?
Thanks...

On the US-Spec xD's the piece just un-clips in the front by two clips and it is on the right side of the plastic cowling where the wipers are...You will see a cut out that's maybe 7-8 inches wide...Just open the hood, push the two front clips in, lift up the weather stripping, and remove the piece...Should take less than 30 seconds total...

And yes to make this functional, he has to cut the bottom plastic piece to place the screen there...It's no biggie and will look bad a$$, especially if you have lighting under your hood...

UPDATE from Jim:

Hi Tim,
As I had mentioned I took a couple days off this week but I wanted to share the latest with you. I finished up a working prototype. This is still the original mold so some changes will be made, and I went ahead and made a mold of just the upper part of the cowl cover. This part should actually work on the car with the cowl cover removed. I would like to send this to someone for testing and a few pics of the part installed. I know you car has been in the shop for your turbo set up so I realize it may not be available for testing. Please let me know, I do have another forum member who has volunteered to test if needed.
This type of part is also an option for the final part. If the OEM cowl cover is cut off at the bend in this part, this part could be attached without the whole cowl cover needing to be reproduced helping to keep the final price around $$$. But we'll see what is going to work the best for everyone.

Thanks again,

Jim

I told Jim that since i was getting my car back from Todd on Sunday to have for the next few weeks to go ahead and send me the prototype, I will test fit it and take pics...Here are the pics of the prototypes Jim sent me...Remember these are not the final editions and he will be tweaking them....I will post more when Jim sends me the actual piece and I install it on the ride...

UPDATE:

Sorry for the delay...Got the piece from Jim and I most say that even for a prototype piece I'm really impressed with his work...

As far as the piece working it DOES NOT in its current form...

Here is the info I sent back to Jim:

There is NO hood clearance problems what so ever...I think we could do the 2-tier one like you did in the first prototypes that everyone really seemed to like...As far as the top part fitting, it fits but it fits loosly and it slides too far forward towards the windshield creating a little overhang if you know what I mean...It does not line up with the existing lines of the windshield plastic moulding when inserted all the way in, does that make sense...When I took off the piece I sent you, I had to remove about a 3-4 foot piece of weather/insulation stripping that helps keep the hood stable and reduce noise...Without the cowl piece i sent you, I can not put the weather/insulation strip in because it goes along the bottom of the piece I sent you to help hold it in place...Not sure of how you could make the cowl without actually building onto the existing plastic piece from our xD like in your first prototypes...I know that might be more expensive for people but im not sure how else it is going to work...Maybe you have an idea...If your thinking of coming to the PHX area anytime soon I would love to meet up with you to show you the one you sent me to better show you what i'm talking about...

Jim has agreed to meet up with me so we will keep you up to date...

Now for some pics of atleast how it will look:

neat if you can, see if he can make some kind of deflector on the bottom inside for those of use in rainy territories or even some sort of spongy material to soak up some of the water but still allow air to pass

I'm jealous, I would like to know how I can order one of these for the fit but make it work for the tc?

I have an idea id like to play with but from what I see I can only order from the Fit forum

Watching this topic also, sweet idea

edit: just realized something, if Jim makes one of these but more of a curve shape at the base to fit the tc here:

Well I got some LED's installed by my sponsor (RANDODE) yesterday and decided to see how the fisrt prototype wiper cowl looked all lit up...Remeber this is the one that DID NOT fit my car but I just wanted to get an idea on how it looked...It looked bada$$...Very hard to capture it with my crappy camera...The lighting does come through the screening with the hood closed also...

Because of the holiday weekend and such, Jim and I are not able to meet up as we had hoped too...However, Jim is going to make it to the SI2 car show here in Phoenix that our club is hosting...There has been talk between Jim and I about expanding this scoop to the other models, i.e. tC, xB1. xB2. xA...The other models already have volunteers...RCZDesigns has the tC...

I will let everyone know how this goes...Jim with have another protoype for me to sample the day of the show...

Now on to the pic:

i dont get it, im putting in a part the is basically funneling water into my engine bay, right over my battery!?

i would also prefer if it attached to or was a full replacement for the piece that has to come out, i like having the batter covered, and with that big piece missing it looks quite awkward.

does he have any comments from FIT owners regarding rain or even washing, putting water into and on top of the battery like that?

I understand where your coming from...That one above was the 1st prototype from Jim (who does not own a Scion) and he sent me it to see if it worked...It DID NOT work and will not without the main piece that covers the battery...Jim is back designing some more prototypes so I will keep everyone posted...Here are some rough pieces Jim sent me pictures of the updated one he is in the process of working on...These are obviously not finished and I thought I would just show you the bottom piece that needs to be included in order for this to work...

Yup I got the template ready to be sent out tomorrow for the tC scoop :D

It seems like it will be even easier to work on the tc than the xD which is great news. The xd prototype is looking good though
