You know, this vent setup for the xD reminds me of the 1982 Renault LeCar I owned 25 years ago - it had a working hood scoop, an oem accessory that bolted into place over a vented grill area on the hood in front of the driver... I want to get this vent for my xD because it's another feature that imitates my beloved little LeCar. I also stole the idea for the side body graphics I added to my xD from the LeCar...

Actually, those were not fogs, they were driving lights setup to come on with the high beams - I could see clearly down the road at least a half-mile or more at night with those... I had considered mounting some driving lights rally-style to the top of the bumper lip on the xD, since I have installed driving lights on EVERY vehicle I have ever owned, but I just figured it wouldn't look so great with the rounded nose on the xD - plus there is nothing underneath that bumper lip to mount the lights to, just a big block of styrofoam... a nice set of HIDs can readily take the place of the driving lights now, anyways...

Well Jim and I both made about an hour long drive to meet in the middle so we could discuss the final product...Jim made up some product and let it cure and now has a better idea on the opening of the piece...Jim will now go back and start on the final piece...

Thanks to Jim and his awesome wife for making the drive continuing to support the Scion community...

Can't wait till we finally have the final design that we have all been waiting for...

On a side note, talked to Jim about making rear bumper protector overlays...He of course says, that shouldn't be a problem...As of right now, all we have out there available to us are those Scion vinyl ones...He will be able to do these in Carbon Fiber as well as Colored Kevlar Weave...Who would be interested in those if he decides to them?

I would go for one of those for sure, I have the Scion one on my bumper right now... one suggestion, if they make these, they should design them so they have a lip on them that wraps down over the back edge of the bumper about 1/2" or 3/4" inch - like the one for the xB in the photo below... The top edge of my bumber is scuffed up badly because the Scion protector doesn't cover the entire top, there's a good 1/2" or more of bare surface around it that isn't covered...

Ok I will let Jim know...He had asked me if I wanted it to wrap around and I really wasn't sure so I told him it didnt matter...But after reading your post, I will definately suggest that it wraps around a little over the edge...Thanks for the feedback!

Not to be a dick, but we've been waiting patiently for the cowls since Sept. Its almost December. I want to actually own the cowl before wandering onto other projects.

Hey Zefoxe, I understand where your coming from but understand Jim and I don't exactly get to meet face to face very often...He lives several hours away from me so since we actually met somewhere in the middle we talked about other things that Scion owners may be into...Jim WILL NOT be undertaking any new Scion projects until this cowl is done, period...But please understand, this guy has some serious talent and if he is willing to expand over to the Scion brand I saw no harm in discussing other potential projects that he can take on...Trust me, he can pretty much make ANYTHING an overlay...He has discussed what he has done (seen pics) for mini, bmw, fit, etc...He can make overlays for window switches, center stacks, complete hood overlays, roof overlays, a/c vents, etc...Your imagination is the limitation...And his quality of work is top notch, which is part of the reason this piece is taking so long...He wants it to fit perfect and the customer to be happy...He could have made the Orange/Black Kevlar im using now the final product by just cleaning it up a bit but the fitment was not PERFECT...I have had ZERO issues with the prototype by the way and people that see it usually comment how they like the way it looks...

So lets give Jim a break and just trust me when you see the final product it will be worth the wait...

Not hating on his talent whatsoever, its just that projects and high hopes are run of the mill for the xD just as much as let downs and projects being cancelled. Im sure you of all people understand this.
Please just finsh the project at hand is all I'm asking. NST is the only one to accomplish this feat in my opinion

Sorry for the prolonged absence, just got buried with projects for Sema and just paying the bills. The project is still progressing and as YELOSUB mentioned we were able to meet up so I could make a temp mold of the surrounding area of the cowl. The problem is that I made a production mold last time not realizing the scoop went back a bit too far and didn't match up with the surrounding surface. I've been able to use the mold from YELOSUB's car to go back and remake the scoop to fit, actually I should have done this from the beginning but didn't think it would be an issue. I should have the shortened model finished this week and it will just take a couple days to make the new mold. If everything works out this time, we should be back on track next week.
Thanks for the comments Tim. To view some of the work I've done more recently my photo gallery is at roguese7ens.com/photos

Just wanted to let everyone know that I finished the new scoop mold and will be sending off another sample. Hopefully everything works out this time and if so I'll start producing a few.
