Default Lots of HID questions...

I would really like to buy a conversion kit for my xD but I am really confused with all the options out there. I have found a wide array of pricing from $80 a kit to $400. I would like to stay around $150 but I don't want to buy ____ kits if possible. Can anyone run down the basics for me here? I know the bulb size is H4 and I would like the super bright blue color temp.

What is this about "retrofitting"? Why would you want to do that instead of buying a conversion kit? Thanks to anyone that can shed some light on this confusing subject. And any retailer suggestions would be appreciated too.

Retrofitting is changing the projector, adding better projectors (TSX, S2K) than the stock ones.

Your superbright blue would be like an 8K, check out planetscion kits, they have a sale in the sponsored sections. They have a special blue kit, I have them on my car and love it.

Retrofitting can be a PITA and expensive if you don't know exactly what you're doing, especially since you don't have projectors already, you'd have a great deal of work to add the projector (the little glass ball you see in bmw, mercedes, acura like stated above) to your headlight housing...

if you just go with a conversion kit, it's just like changing your bulb, but you have to do a little wiring with it since you have to add the relay harness and balast...it's not that hard at all...

A great place to go that has good reliable kits...www.aandrmotorsport.com

click here and scroll down to see the color chart...by the sounds of it...you'd want either the 8000k or 12000k kit...if you go to my profile, i have 8000k in both my lows and fogs, yours would look more like my forgs if you got the 8000k...they are pretty blue...but not crazy blue...

the thing is, you'll just have to email them for pricing and such...
http://www.aandrmotorsport.com/store...ame=contact_us if you click that. it'll go straight to the contact page...fill it out and in the subject spot, put "Rob, Brandon sent me..." and say that you're looking for an H4 kit 8000k, or 12000k for an xD...they put together any bulb kit that people need...he'll email you later today with the price and seeing if you want an invoice sent to buy it...it might not be the cheapest kit around, but they make a great reliable kit...and keep in mind that since it's a dual filament bulb (single bulb for low and high beam) the hid kit will be more than just a single filament bulb kit would be...

i hope that helps a bit

im trying to understand this bi-xenon stuff. the xD uses one bulb for high and low beam, if i were to get HIDs, would i loose my high beams, or is there a way to have HID low beams, and regular high beams? or both high and low HID in one bulb?

They make Bi-Xenon HID's, with two bulbs in one light bulb essentially

You really should do an actual retrofit if you plan on going through with it. Yes, it costs more to have projectors put in, but you're also not going to cause a ton of glare to oncoming drivers which reduces their safety and your own. If you drop in a HID kit without a retrofit, you're going to have a lot of scattered light and glare. The bulbs simply aren't designed for the reflector housing in the xD. A proper setup of projectors will give a nice sharp cutoff and a great OEM look.

Here's the awful truth about how it should, and shouldn't be.

There are two different bi-xenons.

With reflector housings you use a "double bulb" single socket HID bulb with a double ballast.

With projector housings you use a single bulb HID with a single ballast and the high beam is controlled by a solenoid flap on the projector shield.

Going the former route, no changes are necessary. Using the projectors, you have add a relay (on each side) to ground the ballast when the high beams are on.
