Are all xD engines loud?
I have always wondered why the engine sounds like it has an exhaust leak.
Sounds like a a fluttering bypass valve for the emissions or? What makes that sound, or is it just mine?
I haven't noticed a Corolla sounding the same.

There are plenty of other things to complain about. Squeaky dash, brake issues, road noise, seat height, etc. All of which are covered here.
My question is why the cars engine seems so noisy compared to other models that use the same engine. There are lots of cheaper cars with quiet engines out there.

It could be because there may be very little between us and the engine from how cheap the xD is compared to what they may put in the Corolla or Matrix. More sound deadening in those than the xD that's for sure.
Maybe test drive another xD to see if it is just your car that's noisier than normal.

I don't have any issues with my brakes and I live in Chicago ( assuming you are referring to the recall),
dash creaks....check, seat height....check, road noise.....not checked, my xB1 is louder.

I get wind noise more than anything else. I've been thinking about putting some DynoMat in the D. Engine noise isn't bad unless I really need to get up and go. Doesn't bother me one bit. =)
Too poor to put new tires on, but I've got another 40k mi to go before then (hopefully!).
