Default Check Engine Light flashes..

So I was driving home tonight from work and I drive up a hill every time I go home. I like to occasionally rev up to 5800 rpm just to keep the engine revving through the entire power band.
During the full acceleration I notice that the CEL flashed on for a split second as i was nearing Redline and flashed again as I shifted into second.

Anyone have any ideas why it happens. Thanks for you help.

i think when the CEL is flashing, you're not supposed to drive it until you find out the problem. solid CEL is something minor, but flashing is a serious problem.

When the CEL flashes most of the time it is the Cat that is bad.

On OBD II cars, a flashing CEL or MIL means that the engine is misfiring and not burning the gas in one or more cylinders. This could be caused by a bad plug, or coil pack or even the ECU. It is most probably sending raw gas to the CAT and will ruin it quickly.

Drive it ONLY to the shop.

Are you running a CAI? The only time I have had a CEL was when I got some moisture in my CAI filter and it unfortunately bogged down and threw a CEL.

Not at the moment. I took off the Fujita CAI about 2 months ago for AEM R&D and still waiting for them to send me one.
Only mechanical mod is the underdrive pulley and short shifter kit.
I re-tighten the crank pulley just to make sure that it wasn't loosening up or anything.

Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Default It turns out that it was the Washer Fluid Light that was flashing

HAHAHA.... You guys will probably think I'm an idiot. Today I was trying to replicate what happened the other night and it happened again. And as you guys will know that the Low Washer Fluid Light is yellow and right next to the Check Engine Light.
It turns out that it was the Washer Fluid Light that was flashing for a split second when I'm at WOT cause I was kind of low on washer fluid. LOL stupid me. Just wanted to give you guys an update.

LOL!!! That's great! You must feel better knowing the car is okay, though.

Speaking of which... I love the fact that you can pour an entire gallon of washer fluid into the reservoir when it gets low. My Golf could only take 3/4 of a gallon, so I ended up with a partial jug bouncing around in the car for a couple of weeks... or collecting dust in my garage.

LOL!! Thats great, sounds like the time when I was driving on a winding road and I was putting my right hand on the passenger seat.... I kept hearing a beeping that would start and go away, I was paranoid that there was someting wrong... I was just putting enough weight on the passenger seat to make the seat belt signal to beep once or twice. Freaked me out. I felt like a total dope!
