Default Driver Door Problem

I looked through the threads hoping to see someone else with this issue, but couldn't find any posts about it. My problem is that it my 2008 xD no longer recognizes when my door opens or closes. A simple example is that if my lights are on and I open my door it no longer beeps at me.

Anyone have any ideas what could have caused this? More importantly, how much is this going to cost me? I haven't had good luck with my dealership's service department being honest about repairs, so I'm not looking forward to getting their estimate.

There should be a pressure switch on the door threshold. It's right next to the bar your door latches to. It may be stuck or bad. Does your instrument panel recognize when your other doors are open? If not it could be something else.

This was a relatively common problem with certain VW models. The cause was a micro switch in the door handle assembly. VW would replace the entire assembly, which was $100 or so, but it was possible to replace just the switch if you did it yourself. I don't know if your problem is the same, but I suspect it is similar.

I imagine most '08s are not under warranty any more. Or do most people not drive that much? My '09 is about 10,000 miles out of warranty.

Yes, it recognizes the rest of the doors. It started with just being intermittent. It was annoying, but I couldn't guarantee I could reproduce it for the dealer, so I waited on it. Unfortunately, it didn't get consistent until after I was out of my warranty.

I've looked for the switch a couple times, but not knowing where it could be meant it could've been on the front or back side, along with door or car itself. Thanks for narrowing it down for me! I'll check it out.
