I agree with post above.. buy the right car for the job.. The xD has a short wheelbase and is very light and tuned for crisp handling.. A no nonsense design.. Better off with something else for smooth ride..

I found that the TRD sway bar made the ride more stable and comfortable.

depending on mileage is say shocks/springs/sway bar. the stock tires had an uber stiff sidewall which made my car rattle till i changed them too, so that could be it

A luxury crossover rides better than an eco car...somebody stop the presses. The main thing thing that can help the ride issues with the xD are replacing the tires. Upgrade to a 205/55/16 and their are a ton of comfort tires choices out there for someone to pick from.

I'm honestly stumped, how is that even possible.

but seriously, its a lexus.... vs a 15k$ scion. you can use dampening material to make your ride quieter, and get a nice tire setup, but you really aren't gonna get much better, and definitly not that of a lexus.

adapt to what you have an enjoy it, its a wonderful little car

Stick with the stock springs and shocks/struts (I went back to stock to improve smoothness) and, like others have mentioned, check out some better tires. You will almost certainly have to go to a slightly different size, since there aren't many choices in our odd Japanese tire size. Just try to keep the diameter the same so that your speedo and odometer will be correct.

Like mikem53 said, it is hard to have a really smooth ride with a short wheelbase... but it can be done. My VW Golf's wheelbase was only 2" longer than the xD's, and it had a much smoother ride. It was quieter, smoother, and handled better... only problem was paying for repairs!

I would suggest getting bigger rims, try TC rims, and Michelin tires as well as the suspension components.

If it's a smoother ride you're looking for, getting larger rims will make the ride more harsh. Putting larger rims on the xD means you need to get tires with a lower profile, and you lose that cushion that you'd normally have with stock tires.

Your best bet for a more comfortable ride is to get a new set of tires (I have 205/55/16 Michelins), and, if needed, replace the worn suspension with stock.

Looking into the rear swaybar... Is that something that is pretty simple to install yourself?

You can easily do it yourself, maybe 15min to install. Uses two existing bolts and two new ones. With the difference it makes I highly recommend it.
