My numbers are 100% correct. I do not go by the computer (which says I avg 41-44). Driving style has some to do with it, though I really can't say I drive mine "economicaly". 18's definitely will hurt your gas mileage, as well as any other engine mods, exhuast, etc. But if you accelerate all the time like your driving a 67 Mustang, that would explain your numbers. Also if you keep it in the higher RPM band at any time that hurts as well, I keep the car in 5th gear any time over ~40.

No engine mods, I don't drive crazy or anything, coast whenever possible, always use cruise control on the highway, etc. Maybe its the wheels. I get the first oil change in a few days, after that I'll be over 1000 miles, so I'll fill up and calculate again.

So far I am averaging 37.9mpg for 1 week with AC on back and forth 40 miles each way on the freeway @75mph. I am VERY pleased with my milage.

Prior to this the best I hit was 34-35mpg. I saw the largest increase after substantially lowering the car on tanabe DF's.

I'm experiencing similar to Chris (crawlgsx) and I too am in Maine. I currently have over 8000 miles on it and find I'm getting better milage now than I did when I first got it. I used to manually track and found the guage overestimates my mileage by about 1.5 mpg. With that said...I NEVER get under 35 mpg and usually get closer to 36-38 going to and from work and around about town. Highway I get closer to 37-39. Currently my guage reads at 40.something avg.

I have tried to get over 40 mpg but the closest I've gotten is I've had the guage read just at 40 but when I factored it out, it still came in at under 39 mpg.

Heck, I am more than pleased with 36+ mpg on a regular basis considering my mustang only got 25 mpg highway.

I posted my mileage numbers and was getting 33-34 mpg. I drive mostly on the freeway speeds between 70 and 80 most of the time. My commute is 89 miles each way. I got my exhaust done a few weeks ago, (something similar to what SeatleGuy, and pickledchang did) my mileage has come up to 35-36 average. I have no other power train mods that would affect mileage.

My boss at work just got a scion xD a few days ago.

It has been record high temps here in CT since he has had it (90-100 degrees F) and he has his AC cranking full speed at coldest setting non-stop for the most part. He is doing only city driving and he is still on his first (or maybe second??) tank.

His computer says 18 MPG...is that possible? Or is it just because of his first tank and AC? This had me worried lol...I don't want my new car to get worse MPG than my 01 honda accord.

City driving while cranking the AC, yup..mine read 18mpg then I disconnected negative to hook up an inverter and lost that reading. Haven't had the AC cranked since, and it's shot up to 26 or so. Actual, won't know until I fill up! Sorry.

Sounds like he drives the car like he stole it. I do not think I could manage 18mpg if I raced it at 105 mph back and forth to work haha. My worst upon worst tanks when I got it averaged 29mpg all city.

There's also a difference between your city and my city driving...completely stop and go around here. 0-(at least)45mph then 45mph(at least)-0 to the next red light.

now that ive got about 3,000 miles on mine and the motors broken in a lot better, ive been getting about 33-35mph on average, about 90% highway around 60-65mph. i dont use the mpg computer, my numbers came from trip computer and pump reading. that mpg reading on the dash appears to be about 10% optimistic for sure. and from what i can tell, there is a huge decrease in mileage once you get over about 70mph. it appears the best mileage is around 55-60mph.

True, the trip pc on mine usually says 39-40mpg average, however when I do the math between fill ups I am at 38.9 at my best.

Now before the few small mods like taking out the uber restrictive hydrocarbon filter & lowering it, the MPG readout was off 3-4mpg.

Last week I took a roadtrip and my meter said I'd gotten over 41 but when I did the math I had actually gotten 39.9...Yay! I was thrilled. 39.9 is not too shabby. I am still averaging high 30's for day to day driving...I run the a/c and drive farily fast, but I don't beat on it. My worst mileage was always on weeks with a lot of snow, where I was truly making the car work more than it should just to get me from point a to point b.

Upstate, NY. Usually its roughly 50/50 city/highway. I find it odd that my gas mileage is so much less than everyone else's.

Getting good mileage has some tricks to it:
Tire Pressure, 40 psi
Load in car, get rid of excess.
Your right foot, drive speed limit, no drag strip starts.
Drive like no brakes, anticipate stops & turns
Get into O/D as soon as possible without lugging engine.
Windows up
Use fuel economy display to help teach you.
NO ethanol, if possible.

Listen to people who get great gas mileage
My first tank 35.3 computer 33.33 calculated (check tires and found 29 psi all )
second tank 42 computer 39.6 calculated (40) psi tires)
All with A/C on max

Ive been doing some experimenting in my 02 WRX prior to purchasing a scion and i recently got 26.6 that was 50/50 city hwy. Some of that city driving was 5mph gridlock kind of stuff. Do you drive with a heavy foot?

I drive with a light foot. I don't get the RPMs up high at all. I'm very aware of gas mileage. Mine is an auto and I have 18'' wheels. Those two things should lower gas mileage, but not that much, IMO. But if I think about it, I get exactly what the MSRP says I should, but NOT what everyone on the internet says. Weird.
