xD is 27/33 and corolla is 26/35. The corolla has the aerodynamics advantage so its hwy is better but the xD has weight advantage so its city is better. If i had an xD i think id try to put tires on with larger circumference to increase the gearing.

Well I just updated my mileage excel sheet and my average is 28.4 mpg on my automatic. I drive more freeway than streets. I wish I was on the higher end Oh well, better than my previous car I'm sure

First tank of gas on the break in mileage: 33.66 mpg by the actual calculations. I didn't even pay any attention to the computer mpg.

I drive about 80-90% freeway. I have a manual and have been keeping the speed about 70 mph or less. A couple times I accelerated to 75.

those of you with after market rims getting not so good mileage, have you considered that your odometer might be off now that you have the different rims. If you went with larger rims and used a tire that gave a larger circumference, the you are going farther than your odometer tells you. would be interesting to check.

On my 2nd tank, got 33.96 mpg. Again, my calculations, not the computer's.

I hope it continues to get better as the car breaks in!

And I have the stock tires with the 16" scion alloys.

My first fill up was yesterday. Stock xD with manual transmission and stock 16" steel wheels. 80-85% or so freeway at around 65-70 mph. Calculated 34.19 mpg. Computer said around 36 mpg. Cant wait till the thing is broken in. I plan to switch to synthetic engine and tranny fluid and up the tire pressure to 40 as well to squeeze out a little extra. Probably a waste of money but I really dont care. I want to see 40 mpg at least once

I just found the cool button that tells you your average - 30MPG for me, and drive it pretty hard.

Thats true. I have also always wondered how accurate the OD is even with the stock tires. Anyone ever tested the OD against GPS on a long trip?

Odo is accurate within .5% on a calibrated 5 mile track.

MPG manually calulated since December '07 after breaking-in for 2000 miles. High: 41.2 Low: 29.1 *** Avg: 34.9. About 65% highway at 60-65 mph. Stock tires/pressure.

Mpg gauge error ~7% (reads too high).

I filled up yesterday before driving to Seattle and back, car comp. says I got 36.7 mpg, cruise was set at 72 where I could use it. Will get my actual mileage when I refuel.

I wouldn't be using cruise control until after 1,000 miles since you need to break it in and keeping it at the same RPM isn't a good idea.

I just checked this.

I drove 172.6 miles according to the dash odometer, 174.3 according to the GPS. Negligible, IMO.

I am getting about 30/31 MPG with my AT Corolla. I drive about 60/40 HWY/City. On the highway I tend to stick around 70 as much as I can unless I get stuck in the fast lane

As for the xD...well, we'll have to see when I eventually get it.

NOx emissins are .20% instead of .07% or something like that.

Some of my alternatives are there, though: tC, xB, Matrix and Corolla in their 1.8l versions, and the Fit (bleh).

To quote Marvin, "well, back to the old drawing board".

See y'all around.
Thats kind of funny that the corolla 1.8 is on the list but the xD isnt since they both have the same drivetrain.
