Default Kinda sucks to be an auto tech sometimes!

Being that I work for Nissan, I work on cars all day. So at the end of the day, I don't want to work on my own car. I just get really tired...

The past 3 weeks, I've been getting a repetative knocking noise, over bumps and dips, from the front, right side of my suspension on the xB! I said screw it, it's a blown strut but I was ____ed off at the same time cause i just put them on, back in April I think?

I drive for a week and ignore it. Went to FL on vacation last week and came back. Drove the xB back to work and the noise is still there. Screw it, I'll just order a new strut! Maybe have them warranty it but I know it's gonna be a while till I get the replacement one in.

Fast forward to today, I decide, what the hell, bring it in and STOP being lazy! Put her up in the air and check balljoints, tie-rods, calipers and lower strut mounting bolts...NADA!

Turns out the top strut nut, the main big one, was just loose!...

You mean to tell me I drove around for 2 weeks, listening to these annoying knocking sounds!

Oh well...lesson learned!!!!!!...

Venting over!

Yep, that 17mm is notorious for loosening up right after a spring install and cause all sorts of annoyance.

Toyota techs say that is a one time use nut and should have a new one each time its installed for that exact reason. Sometimes they work loose even when torqued down. Did you make sure the slot/key way on top hat was not torn/destroyed? That is usually the result when, "the noise is let go to long"

I installed the Toyota Echo struts, so it had a new 19mm nut. It came loose somehow. I knew I should have put some loc-tite on the threads!
