anyone think that there is any risk of hydrolocking on a short ram like this?

I'm guessing unless you drive thru one of the Great Lakes, hydrolocking shouldn't be a problem with a SRI.

I agree. But what kind of conditions do you think would be necessary to hydrolock it with a sri? (not that i'm trying to or anything lol)

A full cai is going to hurt lower rpms more and gain more from higher rpms (its a longer path for the air to travel). A sri is typically a bit louder and works better for lower rpms without as much gains in higher rpms.

Quite honestly, you aren't getting much gains at all with either one, so it doesn't really matter. Its for sound and looks. I believe there is more information to answer your question on the 'official intake' thread b/c it has been asked.

I have this intake, for me to hydrolock, I would have to attempt to drive my car in the East River.

Ahh, thats good to know. I am thinking of an injen hydroshield for extra ridiculous safety. They are cheap - $20 probably not even necessary, but I can sleep at night this way

it's good to have some sort of insurance but getting the hydroshield is a bit much. How about next time, after you have driven in the rain, pop the hood open and see if there is any type of heavy condensation anywhere.

not a bad idea. If the hydroshield is too much, what kind of 'insurance' do you recommend? (that sounds like sarcasm - its not)

Umm.... w/ a SRI, you dont need any type of insurance. EVen if the filter is a little wet, usually the engine wont even notice.... it's really not until the engine takes in a big gulp of water does it hydrolock.

I have had it on since late summer with the cold air box and there is no indication of the cold air box getting wet. My next task is hooking up the ram air. A littled worried about hydro lock with that.

HAHA this is funny. You guys know that the only way to hydro lock is to 'soak' the filter, right? Not just spray a mist over it. Like it has been said before, the only way ur gonna HL an SRI is to drive through a river. Ram air or not. Unless of course you're going to bring the ram air in through a hood scoop. But by going through the fender walls, you will be fine.

Calm down guys, don't worry, it will be ok

Now the injen hydroshield (the piece that fits over the filter), i know nothing about it. Does it restrict airflow? Is it recommended? I am talking about a full cai granted, but is that hydroshield better than the bypass valve?

the only experience I have w/ the hydroshield is from K&N. I passed water through it and not much water went on the insides. Not sure about the affects on airflow. The bypass valve onlny works if the filter is pretty much submerged I believe.
I have never used a CAI before but know ppl who do. My part of the Grand Central Pkwy does flood, but it's rare.
