Forums are Very Slow
OK, officially, I am working on getting the site onto new servers... we are already running on three servers that are pretty expensive.... in the next 30-60 days the site is going to get relocated to a new server array that should make it FAST again. I am on this, but there is a lot of work that goes into making this happen and getting everything transferred over. Be a little patient. Please?
Right now speed appears to vary fairly randomly, so it is probably normal variation due to external load. I'm getting load time for a page of anywhere from 1.592 to 55.587 seconds in the space of half an hour.
At least the massive slowdown that was happening due to server looping problem appears NOT to be the problem now, and it's just load.

From here last night I was getting load times for pages in the hundreds of seconds, and finally it got bad enough that I could get no response from the servers for over 15 minutes (even though they pinged just fine), so I gave up after dropping the boss a note.
Appears only marginally better this morning.
Load time for this page was 96.770 seconds.
Something is wrong.

Hey Tomas--oh guru of the internet--I got a "Malware" notice last night on one request. I got an esoteric explanation from Microsoft. Never had that before. I have spyware protection and such so not too sure what was going on. Is the server looking for things that are not there??
I have no idea, 'Yeller, since I really can't see any more about the server's behavior than you can (being a mod doesn't give me any of that sort of access).
All I can do is poke around the loose edges, but I can't get behind the curtain at all.
All I can say is that my laptop keeps a pretty close eye on how the ScionLife servers are performing, but when they start behaving badly, I don't know why, only that they are. My only possible action at that point is to drop the Boss a note.
Oh, BTW, I stopped listening when you sais "Microsoft." Sorry.

P.S. Response times are now a lot better than they were for about ten hours yesterday - most pageloads are under 15 seconds for me right now...

Last night was horrid. Today isn't so hot either but if you have patience, you can at least eventually load pages.
It is very reassuring to know that you're working on it. Thanks for taking the time to respond to this thread.
