Goodbye tC, hellooooo Si
The SI doesn't have enough torque to eat up a tc with a supercharger your talking about 40 lb difference there with roughly the same hp. The SI is basically the difference between a corolla and a corolla xrs. Its the same motor just tuned different. The tc is not tuned but if you spend a little bit of money boom all motor tc will be 200 hp and at least the stock torque of 163. AND it will cost less still
How is honda tryin to clone a tc...?? the k20 is by far a better tuning motor. Hands down if both cars had I/H/E the si wins no matter what. Give it the tc may get it out the hole with your 23 more tq but the top end on the tc is by far no comparison the the vtec motor. I dont care if the car only pumps out 139tq..........the k20 in all motor trim will be able to take out s/c tc's all day long..........
some of the turbo kits available for the tc are only putting out 200-240 to the wheels......for 4000. dam. the TRD s/c puts out only 200hp at 7psi......wow. i've seen and have friends that can get all motor k20's into the 220-240 hp range for less than 4000. now you do the math why would you spend all that money bling bling'n your trd s/c to only get 200hp. doesn't seem too reasonable. and to only be barely faster than a si or a type-s.....??
but i'm not sayin the tc cannot go fast........i've read up on a lot of high hp tc's, and they are very nice.......only thing is you gotta spend the money. Give it a couple more months and there should be alot more available for the tc motor.
Boy oh boy. here we go. For every Vid that shows one car losing to another. there is another Vid that contradicts. Being the tC has a lower compression ratio and higher displacement. the tC should gain more power mod for mod than the SI. and in that instance torque does make a huge difference. U got to spend MORE money to put down 400 whp on a Civic SI than a Scion tC. Why you ask? The Power of Vtec, and high compression ratios. Have you seen the numbers on the S/C tC? I mean the track numbers. not the HP numbers. Until you have you can't say what the s/c tC will do. And since the 06 SI only does 0-60 .1 seconds quicker than an NA tC. pretty sure the Supercharged tC will do more than just compete with the SI
Until then we will just have to wait and see my friend. My money goes on the honda......yes i could be wrong......this is just imo......nothin personal against the tc. Imean come on if i had something against it i wouldn't have bought it.
There are too many honda fanbois on this site who bought a tC cause they new it was better bang for your buck. like buying an SI for the price of an EX.. and looks better. But quick to jump back to thier fanboi roots and trade in the tC for the new Si. Wich won't be much faster than a NA tC. maybe 15.3 to 15.7
But do you realize the parts that are available for the k20..? numerous. I bought the tc cause it was a decent car for the money. now with the release of the civic......imo........its well worth the 1-2000 more than what i paid for my car.
dude..........its the same motor. very minor differences........for example its just like the older engines, b18c1 and b18c5. same motor different internals, but both designed on the same platform. yes turbo kits and such will be in production, but internally, parts at still the same. k20 is a k20. z3 or not. the motor is built on the same platform. let call it this....a de-tuned type-s motor.

And that would be all motor too. Is it just me or did honda try to clone the tc???
Pricewise the tc will be faster per dollar hands down and in the same class "naturally aspirated". If anyone has a stock SI that wants to race I would like to see how well the tc holds up stock. But take the extra cost and actually do a little tuning to the tc and hands down tc wins.
I dont think the 06 Si copied the Scion TC. The way I see it, the Si is built for the track whereas the TC is built as a cruiser.
Also, the main weakness of the TC is not its power, but rather its handling characteristics and driving dynamics. To match the Si with that respect, the TC will need aftermarket parts to keep up. Keep in mind that the 06 Si has an LSD, 2-piston brakes, and a sport tuned suspension.

Somewhere there is a C6 owner reading this and laughing at us discussing which econobox is less slow.
Whatever car you end up getting you will be satisfied. They are both good cars.
I have never owned a Honda, thought about it a time or two, but that's as far as its gotten.
I think this Si will be far more popular than the outgoing Hatchback which I didn't think was bad to start with. But in the US market hatcback screams "CHEAP" so nobody wants to be thought of a broke POS. plus they soften up the car to try and make it appeal to a larger demographic.
That didn't work so its back to the coupe...
I like the new Si, its on my shopping list, but so is about 2 other cars including the tC.
As for output, the tC will always make more torque because of its displacement.
But the aftermarket for the K engine is very, very good and I expect people to make over 200hp at the wheels with a couple of bolt-ons and a new tune up from Hondata.
If your really out there, you could swap in the 2.4L block from the TSX and really make some power.
The Civic like all Hondas will be well supported by the aftermarket. The thing about the Scion is that alot of the parts won't start flowing until more cars hit the used market.
That's just how it is, unless its a proven sales hit like just about every Corvette or Mustang, in which case the aftermarket knows its going to be popular and they develop parts for it anyway.
There's also the factor that most Scion owners are posers and not serious speed or horsepower freaks. Part of that is the lack of experience and knownledge by Scion's demographic which is around 25 and alot of people that post here and way under that.
Just all the BS post about nitrous tells the story, you don't have any of that BS going on any of the other compact forums as nitrous is an accepted power-adder without alot of the dumb questions.
I can almost assure you that HKS, Greddy, TODA, Hondata and few others already have a production or pre-production Si and I bet Greedy is already readying a kit for the Si, which will be in production before the Greddy kit for the tC. That's just reality.

You're looking for bang for buck? The SRT-4 still has the tC beat tremendously in terms of that.
And so using your logic, are you saying that I should get a RSX over a 350z or a s2000, simply because of ricer math? ricer math is...
RSX is 23k
350z is around..28k, S2k is around 30k
price difference of 5k and 7k. invest in turbo
so RSX + 5k >> 350z?? Nope
the 350z is still a better car than the RSX really, even though the RSX is faster. Why? Because it's modded! I hate it when people use that excuse..then why can't you buy a used car for 5k, and invest 10k in performance and call it better than a car that it shouldn't be better than?
The tC is good for what it is, but I don't see why everyone is so negative about the si. And until the car actually comes out, I don't really trust the projected numbers it'll do for 1/4 and 0-60mph
