Theists will tell you that there not being a god is not a possibility (if you say it is possible for there to not be a god you don't go to heaven so be careful).
So who is more closed minded?

(oh, by the way kahuna, this is an example of a question based in reality.)
Well I'm just curious how I could ask you a question that had ANYTHING to do with God when in your reality he has no chance of existing?
You're telling me that I can only ask a question if it meets the criteria of your world veiw....
That's pretty interesting.

Well I'm pretty much being asked to have, "God show you his Magical dissapearing ball trick" in person.
Sadly I could never do that, but then again expecting me to seems like some pretty insane criteria.

In regards to Atheist being enlightened I already explained to you that while you "know" what happens after death/how the world was created we don't, so who would you consider more enlightened.
You still haven't taken me up on my offer to simply post a question you want answered that makes sense and isn't based in a fantasy "pretend" world.
Actually I'm going to have to disagree here. Atheist believe that nothing happens after you die. Atheists believe that the world was created during the big bang and that life emerge from primordial soup. You, by definition, have your own explanation for how things began or will end. So who would you consider more enlightened? I think we're both pretty darn sure of things and by claiming that one of us is more "open minded" is pure crap.

there is only 1 reality. me and you cuold be inseparble for our entire lives, and obviously we'd share the same reality. We could observe the universe together through a telescope, and we could see people die and watch as their body withers away.

our reality shows no soul. yet you or the book you read make up one. but we'd still share the same reality, right?

our universe shows no sign of a supreme being, just lots of unanswered questions, yet you have decided to make up answers that are based off of 'evidence' that you can't actually show me. but we'd still share the same reality, right?

see, i don't add fantasy elements to our reality, but you have to answer questions we both have. I let those unanwsered questions stay unanswered until both me and you can see this reality's answer together.

An absolute idiot. But if that were the case then how would that solve anything? If God came down and smacked people in the backs of there heads, how would that make him better then any despot or ruler that would kill the people in his country for not believing the same thing he does.

Well I'd have to agree with you on the fact that we could both be looking at the same thing and come away with different assumptions on what we saw.
What I find interesting is that if there was a God (look once again I'm not going to say there is a god so you guys don't get offend, just trying to be nice here) and he was there next to us to tell us why the people were withering away and dying, would you still listen to him?

I know you're going to try and slam me for that, but its a serious question. Even if one day you were to be shown proof that God exists, would you still follow him? It sounds to me like you already have your mind made up that this universe is a chaotic mess.
So if given an option would you chose to follow him? Just curious to see your response.

i'm more open minded and enlightened than you or most here, but i attribute most of it to lsd opening my mind though.

See I've asked christians(even my parents) this:
If a jesus came down from heaven (physically, like we could watch him), and said "mormons are the correct faith", would you accept that? or wait for your version of jesus to appear?

Every christian, instead of answering the question, says "but I believe it's not true". but eventually they say "I'd wait for my jesus. because i know he's coming"
regardless that this guy flew down from the sky unaided by wings.

ok, most the bible was written like 1500 years ago, right?

well say jesus decided to take a break like 1000 years ago, and his buddy bob took his place for until say the year 2050. that could happen within the scope of the bible, right?

If you argue that god didn't write the bible, but an erroneous man did, then surely bob could be the fill in saviour, right?

see it's these ideas that the world can change, and we'll learn new things that actually make atheits more open minded. Your book is shut, right?

cummon...now...
what makes my hope of a belief when I was 7, different than you christians?
I never said I was christian....and I'm not.

yeah, you're right...but I was merely stating that I believe that if you believe in your religion enough...after you die, you will do just that you believe...go to heaven, hell, turn into a tree...whatever you wish.

I have no proof of this nor do I claim it's true. I just put that out there to see what people thought.

I find this pretty gosh darn interesting as the very definition of Atheism is:
a·the·ist [ áythee ist ] (plural a·the·ists)
noun
Definition:
unbeliever in God or deities: somebody who does not believe in God or deities

So I guess that by you calling yourselves atheists you are in fact taking up the mantle that you know for a fact no god exists. If however that is not what you believe then I humbly ask that you begin to refer to yourself as an Agnostic:
ag·nos·tic [ ag nóstik ] (plural ag·nos·tics)
noun
Definition:
1. somebody denying God's existence is provable: somebody who believes that it is impossible to know whether or not God exists
2. somebody denying something is knowable: somebody who doubts that a question has one correct answer or that something can be completely understood
I'm an agnostic concerning space aliens.

Now I hate to play the semantics card here but seeing how I was blasted for saying the word pretend I guess its ok.

As far as being so called "Enlightened" read any Atheist website about the "Age of Enlightment" and how this time period allowed the "enlightened and reasoned were allowed to be the atheist they knew they were." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_Enlightenment
i do sorta agree. I am an atheist.
I believe in the big bang. I believe in evolution. but I take diagreement with
"you are in fact taking up the mantle that you know for a fact no god exists"
if I could prove that no god exists, then I would be able to prove something isn't. Something that can't be done by any scientist, christian or atheist.

I can prove through logical deduction the many of the ideas of genesis says is true is false. I can prove you, like most people, got your original idea of a god from people who believed in the bible, and i believe if the bible is false, and that then your idea of a god came from something that is false.

Agnostics don't know one way or another. I believe god is a fabric of some cavemens' imaginations, and it has transformed into the many religions we have today.

a deity is totally provable. especially one that has all these magical powers like you claim. we could simply wait for any of these miracles to happen and observe them, but you christians like to say "he won't actually do real miracles nowadays, just ones that could be natural occuring coincidences".

Christians keep their idea of a god from ever being able to be proven, by saying "god is magic, and magic can do anything it wants." again, you can only prove something is. you can't not prove something isn't. the burden of proof is on the claimant, not the person being told the story. If I say magic exists, I shouldn't say "i'm not proving it, you need to prove it can't happen" that doesn't prove anything besides me being a dumbazz.

people who believe in god make up insane criteria for non-believer to prove that is not based in reality.
I was just about to say that dave. I'm getting sick of the same little circle this thread is going in...I was enjoying it....not anymore.

...and I hate (cross that out) I dislike it when people throw words in others mouths. i.e. "So I guess that by you calling yourselves atheists you are in fact taking up the mantle that you know for a fact no god exists"

I disagree. If me or you cuold watch a man die, and watch his body decompose in front of our eyes. We would come to the exact same conclusion, if neither me nor you were biased by other people. I was trying to say, look me and you spend every second of our lives together. I would claim only what both of us observe is true. You don't observe souls rising from the dead, and neither do i. No guessing what happens, we only agree on what we both can observe. We both would agree a man died and his body withered away, and his body's atoms are aborbed through the soil. this is the atheists point of view. we're just observers.

if god was there and both me and you could observe he was(if only i saw him, but not you, i would think naturally we'd both think i was mentally ill). seeing things no one else can see, generally is a symptom of mental illness.
but if he really was there, i could not deny him obviously. i would be stupid to. of course i would listen.

If i was shown proof of anything, god, pickles, whatever, i choose to believe in proof, as something with proof, we can both agree is in our reality.

That's pretty interesting.
There are a few fundamental problems here with most of the questions that the theists are asking us non-theists. That problem is any question that they propose that refers to a god is usually a question that has foundation in church written religion, personal testimony, or just pure speculation.

Non-theists cant answer these questions because we dont believe in church based ideas, mainly because we can offer evidence and explanation saying otherwise. If we had a non-christian person of faith in here, they would probably disagree as well with certain ideas, because it conflicts with their own.

We have no problems trying to answer questions about god, but those questions need to be scientific in nature, and have no foundadtion on any contemporary or historical religion.

God wouldnt have to force anyone to do anything they didnt want. But like a good person taking care of an ant farm, it is nice for the caretaker to stop by every once and a while to say hi to everyone, and add some new soil or something we can physically use in order to give a genuine "thank you"

You gotta understand though, An Evolutionist dosen't need to have all the answers and everything is ok. But if a Creationist dosent have all the answers, then that proves that we are wrong.

You are wrong because you always have the same conclusion regardless of the question or answer.

Evolutionist say that for now, theory 'X' is what we believe, but we can easily drop said theory when it is shown to be incorrect.

That is the difference and a huge one at that.
