Banks Are Crooks.
0 balance + 100 bucks tomorrow - 20 bucks today = -20 bucks today.
No offense, I work for a bank and its difficult customers that make strict policys. The bank I work for use to wave od fees for transactions 2 bucks and under. It created such irate from custs who od by 2 bucks or more, that they changed it to 1 cent. You cant spend what you dont have. Second, when you use your debit card as a credit card, many companies charge an authorization or deposit, which can od your account like renting a car, making reservations or sitting down at a bar and buying a bottle of water.
Then cut off times vary by regions controlled by that respective federal reserve. Checks are cashed on the banks they are written off of through their respective federal reserve and back. It takes on average 3 weeks for a check to really clear the other bank and back, but we usually make the funds available faster based on your relationship or per regulation CC.
I have all the disclosures at my disposal and its outline in the fine print no one reads.

Ive only od once in 16 years and have a credit card for 8 grand just for od protection. Employees arent immune to fees either. Next time, ask the cashier when funds will be available and maybe better to just cash the check. Just remember if the check is for 500 bucksd or 3 grand, ITS HOT!!!!!
