You know what C? My father beat me... his father beat him.
I can't stand my grandpa... I am sorry to say it. But I just get the creeps by being around him sometimes. I don't like his ethics, and I don't like the way he treats others. Knowing that my father turned out to be such a ***** just from taking after my grandpa doesnt help.
I have heard stories of my grandpa beating my father so bad that he actually bled from the belt marks, then putting him in the tub and pouring alcohol on him because he was drunk. But still, my dad will protect him to his dying day. Don't say anything bad about my grandpa to my dad, you will likely get hit.
I just don't understand it. I guess in that sense, your ex is like my dad. Why do people do that?
How can people stand that? It baffles me.

Pride often prevents people form seeing, hearing, and knowing the truth.
It may not be that he is protecting his father, but more so protecting the family name.
My Grandfather use to beat my father and his brothers.....my dad never beat me...he spanked and disciplined me but never beat me because of the way his father was.

My ex smacked me once, I think he will always regret it, made him think of his father with his mom. He never looked at me in the eye again with serenity.

If you are going to try to put someone down, make sure you put that person down and dont include anyone else just because they come from the same reigon.
i can speak from experience here, cause im still pretty much a kid, and my folks spanked and smacked me, and i turned out fine
go to a great school get good grades, dont drink or smoke, dont do anything insanely stupid, nothing illegal. You have to spank and smack your kids, my folks did it with my older sis and me and we turned out fine
by the time my lil sister was born, i think my folks were tired, or becasue she was their last they babied her, they have only spanked her all of twice, and she is a poiled brat, gets everything she wants and when she doesnt the fits ensue.

All children will learn when they're spanked/hit/beat.
What they learn though, differs from child to child.
I learned it's not ok, some learn it is ok and continue the cycle.
My dad, violent as hell, his dad never touched him once. My grandpa told me a story about when my dad was 16 my dad went up, and punched my grandpa(his dad) right in the kisser, knocking him down. My grandpa just looked right at him, bewildered at what my father had done, nothing happened though, and soon my dad was off to college to not see his father for years. my dad had an older brother who didnt ever hit his parents nor his own kids. My great grandpa was very violent too. So in my family it sorta skipped generations. But "it" didn't really do anything, some people learned some didn't. My grandpa learned how stupid hitting children was from his own violent father. My father never learned it wasn't ok.
My sister who incurred not a tenth of the wraith i did, but still got slapped, punched, bruised, mentally degraded, etc... does hit. hits me, hits her boyfriends and husbands, etc...
i think we should just teach kids, and our whole society it's not ok to hit at all.

Family name or not. I will learn from it, and learn to be not like it.
I will never hit my children... not like that. I feel sorry for the people that live in regret or feel like they have to protect thier name because of what there ancestors have done.
Lead by example... in that sense I agree with Dave.

no, you can never hit a kid and they can turn out fcuked up. i think everyone knows some spoiled kid that was never disciplined.
If you saw how quick I was in correcting my child, or a relatives child, you may think i was too strict if you saw that the first time. Like i said, MOST people let their kid really screw up, start bleeding, or screaming or whining BEFORE they do anything. not me. I stay on top of that behaviour. I know what leads to bad behaviour, I stop the lead in, not wait for something bad to happen first.
as with me, and with alot of people being hit/abused whatever doesn't have to make you a bad person, or someone that hits or doesn't.
but teaching a child to hit, is wrong. teaching them violence is "sometimes ok", puts the judgement of when "sometimes ok" in the hands of a child.
