Quick question for Nikon guys, and possibly Canons. Will AI-S lenses work with new bodies? I'm looking at some of the older lenses, and I'm seeing mixed things regarding AI-S lenses.


Well it better, because I just bid on the 28mm f/2.8 lol.

 

A1-S lenses as in old film lenses? if so, im pretty sure they do. you just obviosuly wont have auto focus

 

The D80 has auto-focus built in the camera, so I have auto-focus with lenses like my 50mm and 70-300mm. So I should be able to auto-focus with it. I'm reading that I just won't have metering.

 

You definitely won't be able to meter. You'd have to get a semi-pro body for that (D200 and above).

 

Ah, well i see that my Nikon knowledge is cleady lacking, but im not complaining.

 

I ended up not bidding on that exact lens, because it wasn't the one I wanted. Turned out to be the newer 28mm f/2.8 AF, not the AI-S that I would rather have. I might end up buying it anyway.

 

F it. I'm just going to wait. I'm probably going to end up selling my 18-55, 55-200, 18-135, and 50mm and replace them with a 28mm f/2.8 or 35mm f/1.8 and 18-200mm. But for now, I'll be fine, plus these auctions don't end til next week and I leave on Friday, so I don't want to take the chance on missing the shipment, especially since I won't be back until late December.
